Importing an MOV is taking forever to render

I've imported a 30 min MOV file for a client.

On the timeline only have the last 10 minutes and am trying to render this on a 4:3 timeline 29.97

render claims it's going to take 26 hours. I've even cut the segment up into little segments. My render drive is more then 3/4 empty.

    What's the deal.

I was able to make Sorenson squeeze compress them into wmv files and works fine. If one does not have sorenson what is th work around for the rendering time for MOV files like this.

A lot of apps can do this conversion but as you have the trial for MC 3,5 now, why not use that and export as an avi for Sd or m2t for HD

Importing into MC takes quite some time as well... not really sure that is the best solution as my MC is a trial version and will xprire soon. What does one do in liquid to import and use MOV files.

Re: Importing an MOV is taking forever to render

I have compressed 1 which comes up the full 30 min and can edit quickly. Doing the same process with another camera angle also 30 min I get the WMV which is 30 min however when i import that one, it always comes in only at 47 seconds, what is going on with this.

Re: Importing an MOV is taking forever to render

In MC, be sure to import them with the 601 option selected in the options instead of RGB. It should "fast import".

Then, just put them in a timeline and export them using DV Stream (RGB in the option). You will be able to import the .DV files in Liquid and it will see them as AVI files.

You cannot really work with MOV files in Liquid because as you see, you need to render them first.

And WMV is not the best option with Liquid, but it's usable.

Re: Importing an MOV is taking forever to render

When you select a file to import, you can change the import properties there. There is an option button.

And when exporting, activate the timeline and choose, file/export. There you can create a new setup and choose DV Stream.

Re: Importing an MOV is taking forever to render

    * Topic Bump & Question*

I have a longer project (TRT 15:00) to undertake and the client is supplying HOURS of raw media in the form of HD MOV files on a drive.

Interested to try to load files into MC 3.5, then dump back out as a DV stream as outlined here.

BUT . . . Just checking to see if there are any other reasonable solutions for bringing MOV files into Liquid.

I have QT-Pro, but haven't found the "right" conversion to maintain a decent look to the conversion . . . Suggestions for parameters with QT-Pro to try?

I have also tried a few freebie video converters without great (quality) success . . . I don't mind paying a reasonable amount for decent software to make the conversion . . . Again, suggestions are appreciated.

    Thanks!
