Re: video capture format for mac

I purchased  the Video Capture for Mac this month.  My system (MOC OSX 10.4.11) met all the requirements.  I installed the Video for Mac software - the result was a highly pixelated, jerky picture & no monitor sound through the computer.

Pinnacle support told me to download and install the update (for Leopard), which I questioned, yet they conformed would fix the problem.  This did work very briefly and then crashed my operating system (a kernal panic). I tried an archive and install, with no success.  I now have to do a clean erase and install.

Pinnacle's suggests I then try to reinstall the software.  I'm VERY hesitant to do so and will likely  return the device.

Is anyone else having major issues with this product?

Hello if you are able please please help.
I just purchased a video Capture device for Mac.
    My Machine G4 Build 85165 10.4.11 768 MB RAM
1.5 Ghz. Device hooked to an installed USB 2.0 card.
    Software PinnacleV1.0 (2865).
    Symptoms
VCR tape will play smoothly and sounds fine played on TV.
Pinnacle Video capture is launched “Dialogue Box “Cannot Continue Pinnacle Dazzle not found options presented Search or Cancel” The work around I have found is to unplug the USB cable for about 10 seconds and then the dialogue box goes away and the program continues as normal. No sound comes from the Mac speakers though. Continuing to the pressing of the Start Recording and when the end is reached pressing Stop Recording. The file is saved in iTunes.
When the file is played back using iTunes or QuickTime the the quality of the video and audio is very acceptable. Except that there is in both a hesitation every 15 -20 seconds. The audio hesitation is minor, but video is very noticeable. The audio does not come through the mac speakers so it cannot be previewed during the setup. However the video is available for preview during setup and seems to be normal.
Final comment during the intervals between the hesitations the sound and video is very acceptable.

    Hardware Overview:

    Machine Name: Power Mac G4

    CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (3.3)

    Follow up Message

Hello in an effort to assist myself I installed the updated version of the software which operates the Mac video capture device. Although your site says that it is for Leopard and I am running 104.11. The README with the update says that it should work from 10.4.8 up, so I put it in. Although we are not there yet there has been a marked improvement.

1 -- I now have sound from the Mac.
2 -- The Audio and Video hesitations are still there and as frequent , but it may be imagination I feel their duration is down.
3 ++Comment++. We are definitely headed in the correct direction. Although not good news for you it is somewhat of a relief that the issue is highly likely to be software based rather than hardware based.

From my very limited knowledge base. I would be looking towards RAM demands and or Caches. Thank you for your kind attention and now as I am getting closer I really want to hear from you even if you say something like "we are working on it" 10.2 is coming.

    Thank you

Re: video capture format for mac

This my first post to this forum, I just bought the Video Capture for MAC and used it last night for the first time....

I recorded a video and it looked great, but I had no preview audio.  After an hour of recording, the video looked good (I used S-video from my camcorder) but the audio was lagging behind for a noticeable .5 seconds (maybe slightly more).   However, the video was very smooth and it played great in i-Tunes. I looked at the upgrade for Leopard before recording, but I did not install it because it said I do not need it.

I talked to Pinnacle today who instructed me to download the update to resolve the audio lag.  I wish they would cahnge their description!

Anyway, I will update tonight and report on progress.  If the audio issue is fixed, I will try putting it on my iPod Nano (3rd Gen - Video).  That should be interesting to see an analog tape home video on my iPod!

Eventually, I will put this into iMovie and edit it.

I am using an Intel iMac, 1.83 Ghz 17" with 1.5 Gb RAM using 10.4.9

Re: video capture format for mac

I have success!  The upgrade only gave me playback audio, but did not solve the almost 1 second audio lag.  However, I got rid of the audio lag by turning off two USB devices I had connected.  I had an external USB drive in the back and a USB printer on my keyboard port (My 3 USB ports were full with the external drive, Video Capture, and keyboard with the USB mouse on the keyboard).  I wondered if the internal USB hub was losing bandwith and thus causing the audio effect.  It appears that is most likely the case.

So, if you see audio out of synch, I suggest disconnecting extra devices you are not currently using.  Nothing else is bothering the recording process... In fact, I am recording right now while working on other things.  For $100, this is a pretty good deal.  Now if only these were $45 like the PC version.

Re: video capture format for mac

Just a quick update... it looks and sounds great on my iPod also  Smile.   I was surprised to see it in use the whole widescreen format.  that must be something the iPod automatically does to format it.
