Avid liquid loses link to media when closed down and reopened

All new projects show media imported from camera in the rack and it can be put on the timeline but when Avid is closed and then reopened the media is missing (question marks appear and the timeline is red). The media is present on hard drive under reels. The media cannot be found by Verify Imported Media but can be re-imported successfully. However, closing and reopening Avid loses the media again. This is the first time this has happened in several years of use! Any suggestions as to why it is happening and how to overcome the problem?

If you go to Control Panel / Site / Media Management, look to see where the video/audio  media is routed to. If it is not to the drive you think it should be, you will have to re-assign the drive you want it to be.

This problem has happened to me if you are using external drives and don't have then mounted when you open Liquid. Liquid will then automatically re-assign the media drive to be your C drive.

Re: Avid liquid loses link to media when closed down and reopened

Thank you for the reply. The media are where they are supposed to be. If I import them again all is well until I close and then reopen Liquid. The data drive is internal and I have since rerouted all (including a new Project) to another drive and the same problem occurs. It's as if Liquid loses all record of where the media are when closed and cannot find them again when reopened even though the data are there and the routing hasn't changed. Bizarre.....

Re: Avid liquid loses link to media when closed down and reopened

My problem new project was created after a recent XP auto-update so I restored my PC to an earlier date. When I opened earlier Projects in Liquid they all worked normally but when I opened the new project I had an "Important Version Information" error message which indicated that this new project had been created in an earlier version and needed to be converted. This is clearly impossible. In addition the path to the media was now not listed in Media Managment Settings. When I restored the path, the media re-appeared in the project and all exclamation marks and red bands dissappeared. More importantly, Liquid could be closed and opened without losing media, which was the original problem. I then allowed Windows to redo 5 updates as well as a recent Java update. Liquid continued to function normally with the new project and could be closed and opened without losing media.  Newer projects performed normally too. Confused? I am. Thanks for your comments.

Restoring back to an earlier date using windows go back function is one of the classical errors, it seldom works with editing systems and might be the reason to your probs.

You might have to do a clean install of it all now, sorry to have to be the one that give you this info.

As you seem to update your editing system from time to time using windows update, I strongly recommend Acronis or something similar and an external usb drive to safecopy bootdisc images to for the future.

Re: Avid liquid loses link to media when closed down and reopened

The path to captured media (normal or EZ) or imported media  is lost whenever Avid is closed and reopened (exclamation marks and red bars everywhere). The same problem was resolved recently by restoring XP to a time prior to recent windows updates. This time this procedure hasn't solved the problem. Data is there, media management is correct. If the media are verified successfully they are lost again when Avid is closed down. Is this an Avid problem or an XP problem as I am now at a loss for a solution?

I would be useful to know your computer specs. You don't appear to have this listed in your profile.

What version of Liquid are you using?
