No 1920 x 1080 picture on Second Monitor

Currently, I'm working on two projects in AL 7.2.

Project 1 is HDV 720p 25fps which shows a picture on my second monitor.

Project 2 is 1920 x 1080 50i which does not show a picture on my second monitor.  It was shot on a PAL Panasonic HDC HS300 in AVCHD 1920 x 1080 50i mode (HA quality).  Files were transcoded from AVCHD to MPEG2 using AVS Video Converter.  AL 7.2 opens the files perfectly, but can't seem to display them on my second 19" VGA Screen (1440 x 900).

I've set the Video Output to display according to the Screen's resolution, but no joy.  Also according to the Video resolution - no joy.

I can't use Main Concept's AVCHD Transcoder for Panasonic because it requires the Camcorder's AVCHD file structure.  This does not exist anymore because the files are on my computer (captured with Panasonic's own software) and gone from the camcorder's hard drive.

Interestingly, the Video Properties of the footage on the timeline says that the video is not interlaced, though the Timeline Properties are set to interlaced.

Any suggestions how to show the picture on second VGA screen are very welcome!

Re: No 1920 x 1080 picture on Second Monitor

    Addition to my previous post...

Fullscreen mode on my 1st monitor displays the 1920 x 1080 picture.  So, I can't figure out why my 2nd monitor doesn't display it.

I imported material using Panasonic's Main Concept AVCHD Converter.  It produces a 1440 x 1080 file which I can XReceive.  Again, does not display on 2nd monitor, BUT does display on 1st monitor in Fullscreen mode.

So I must set my timeline to HDV 720 25p to view my High Definition footage.

    Hmnn...

Re: No 1920 x 1080 picture on Second Monitor

Just used Vasst's AVCHD Upshift to make .m2t files.  Brilliant!  Very impressed with the quality.

I still can't get a picture on my second VGA though.  As soon as I switch the timeline from 720p to 1080, the second VGA picture vanishes leaving only the desktop background!

Any help really welcome at this stage!!

Have you tried updating your video card drivers (or maybe downgrading them)? I suspect this is a video card driver issue.

    Thanks LewS,

I'll contact NVIDIA to see if they know anything.

Nvidia offers three options for the second monitor. Cloning, extending, and (I forget the third)???

Anyway, have you properly extended your desktop in Control Panel?

Re: No 1920 x 1080 picture on Second Monitor

    Hi Doug,

My NVIDIA card has Single View, Dual View, Cloning, Horizontal Span, Vertical Span.  It's in Dual View right now.

In Windows XP SP3, in Properties - Settings, Windows is extended onto the 2nd monitor.

Though, as I mentioned, a 720p timeline works fine with 2nd VGA fullscreen viewing in Liquid, a 1080 timeline doesn't work at all!

My current solution is to physically swap around my monitors. Now, what was my 2nd monitor is my 1st; I have my timeline view on my 2nd monitor and I double click the master viewer to get fullscreen on my 1st monitor. So I'm not using 2nd VGA mode at all now.

I suspect it's the card, because lots of my Transitions and FX library don't work at all on the 1080 timeline. I did find a Classic Transition Dissolve that I got to work by editing its aspect ratio setting to 1920 x 1080. Got a reddish coloured slice on the timeline that rendered to green after a little time.

    Any insight appreciated!

    Seamus.
