    Grab resolution on Studio 14

    Hi,

I'm really pleased with Studio 14.  It's more than I would have expected, and logical enough to almost figure out for oneself.  This, I can't find any information on, however.

I grab lots of stills with plans to print off some of them and send away.  When I check in Windows Explorer, they are saved as jpg. and come in around 250kb.  Photoshop pulls them up at a resolution of about 400 x 600.  This will just BARELY print a 4 x 6, and a wallet size fine.  I need these for horse sale catalogs and advertising.

Do you have any idea how I would increase the resolution?  Or, what an alternative method would be?  Grabbing stills is SO much simpler than using a regular camera, as I can get the perfect shot with grabs.

    Thanks fo ryou assistance.

Are these grabs coming from a standard-def 720x480 NTSC video?  If so, then 640x480 (or 720x540?) would be all the better than you're going to be able to get.

"Print quality" frame grabs are almost attainable with some 1920x1080p videocams or DSLRs with large sensors.  But they still can't look as good as still photos shot with the most ordinary 2mp digicam, except at 4"x6" or something small.  Of course, some portraits don't need (or may be better without) super high resolution.  The virtue of frame grabs is that you can grab just the right moment.  Some digicams have burst modes, but their quality is usually in inverse proportion to the capture rate, and the mode can't function simultaneously with ordinary video takes.   If you want to increase the quality of the frame grabs, but don't want to have to upgrade your PC, some inexpensive digicams shoot HD video in 720p motion JPEG or AVI-MJPEG, which is not so tough to edit and will yield reasonably good (but not studio quality) frame grabs.

Re: Grab resolution on Studio 14

Okay, looks like what it shows is about it.  I have the camera power, but as it was pointed out...Studio takes about 90% of the effort out of getting that perfect shot.  Head right, tail down, legs correctly positioned, angle just right...and on and on ad nauseum.

So, my solution for the immediate project is this:  Grab, go to Wal-Mart and see if they can print the file better than my printer and PC, and get it sent OFF.

Thanks for your input.  It was helpful to know I wasn't missing a step or something.  Forums are great, aren't they?
