Can anyone confirm if a repair install is or isn't possible with the DVD version of Studio 14?

The download version doesn't seem to allow it, even if I create a install DVD from the files in the temp folder created when the download unzips itself.

CONFIRMED. Even if you place the install files on your desktop, let it unzip, and run the program when Studio 14 is already installed, you get the error message that a repair install is not possible.

I've installed/uninstalled Studio 14 so many times now my head is starting to spin. My last install went best--the only thing not working from previous versions is Adorage. Guess I'll live without it because I'm tired of the whole process.

So, that's another function that has been removed.

On Windows 7, Studio 14 can be repaired in Control panel - programs and features where programs can be removed changed or repaired.

Just done it but do not know yet if there are any side effects.

Confirmed that Windows 7 can repair Studio 14 with upgrade installer. I intentionally broke Studio 14 on one of the lab machines and ran the Windows 7 repair and pointed to the Studio 14 installer (MSI) and it ran through a repair. The end result was a working Studio installation. Though like the repair installation from other/previous versions, results may vary.

A problem has arisen with this repair. Every time S14 is started the UAC pops up with a request to run the installer. It also pops up if a file which Pinnacle has created (or possibly used) has been clicked on.

I tried it out of curiosity but there is another case on the forum.

A way is needed to stop this occuring.

 

Hmm.. I'm not able to do get this. I'll reinstall 14 upgrade on a fresh image, will break it again.. and then repair it.

Apologies. Repair is available from the Add/Remove control panel box, in XP.

ISTR if you ran a S12 install disk with S12 already installed, you got the chance to Repair. This doesn't happen in S14 from the install disc I've created from the download.

I don't have that disc with me, and the repair option asks for it, so I can't try to repair the install on my laptop, which is still behaving very badly. It has the habit of locking the CPU to 100% with a SVCHOST service whenever the importer tries to detect scenes from a new video file. That needs to be another thread, though...

You say that the repair asks for the install disc which presumably means that you installed from disc.

Now, on Win 7, I installed from the saved downloaded file of the trial version and was not asked for the disc during repair.

Maybe that is why I keep getting these UAC popups.

Maybe not. Somebody else has this problem and he installed from disc.

 

Now that I would have to look into. I'll burn a copy when I get some new RWs.
