How do I delete all project files in Studio?

    HOwdy,

I got asked this by a client today, when they delete a project from within Studio (v.10 I think?) it deletes the project file but not the associated media, hence their HDD was full.  I looked but I couldn't find a setting to delete all associated files when a project is deleted.  I did find a seperate 'delete associated files' section but it didn't seem to give the option I was after.

    Am I missing something?

    Thanks

If you mean the video files captured to make the project, then, no, you aren't missing anything, at least in Studio 10.

S12 has a "delete captured files" opton when you are in the Import tab, but the program doesn't know which capture files the user intended to use for each project, so it is of limited use and the user has to still decide for themselves which captures they no longer need.

In Studio 10, the captured files will be of a specific type - .avi or mpg probably, and in the default capture directory unless the user has changed that, so it's a question of using search or windows explorer.

One of the features I missed in 12. I know you don't like the S14 Importer very much Jeff, but were you able to find this feature in 14? Smile

    Well, since you mentioned it.....

There doesn't appear to be that feature in S14, Marc.

It's not just a question of disliking the importer. If it worked, then perhaps I'd get to see that the new features outweigh the old ones that are missing.

It doesn't work correctly on my 2 monitor XP setup (and email support seem to have stopped responding to my case).

On my laptop it makes S14 completely unusable. Every time I open a video file in the album that hasn't had scene detection applied, the importer is evolked, and when it finishes, a SVCHOST process then locks the CPU to 100%. If I close that process and reboot, S14 then works until the next time I try to use another file.

Without any capture hardware attached, it's impossible to turn scene detection off. I can't even begin to explain what happens if I try to import a DVD title.

Now of course, there could be something about my laptop other than it's lowly spec that is clashing with S14's importer - it's an Acer, after all. When I get home from my current trip i might try rebuilding the OS to see if I can eliminate the problem. However, I'd like to think that I have clearly identified a similar situation with the Importer, XP and two monitors that is being ignored, so  even if I can track down the issue, who's to say that Pinnacle will take any interest?

IMHO, this is worse that the introduction of S10. There are many users that don't have a choice of machines and operating systems so that they can cherrypick one that happens to work with S14. They may not have the patience, or be sad enough, to do Pinnacle's testing for them. Let's hope they aren't expecting S14 to be the best advance since the move to digital.

Did Mike Shaw even bother to run the Importer?
