    Re-capturing Video

I have an already edited multicam project where the main camera footage is suffering from what appears to be dropout, I've checked the tape in question back in the camera and it seems to be ok, so what I wanted to do was to re-capture that tape without having to re-edit. If I re-capture then go to the reels folder make a note of the video and audio clip names then delete the originals, move the re-captured clips into the folder and re-name them with original names would that work? or is there an easier way of doing it?

    Re: Re-capturing Video

If you've logged that clips, then you should be able to just re-digitize the clips from the main camera. Right-click on the problem clips in the rack and choose Batch Digitize. The re-captured clips will replace the existing clips. Remember that you'll have to re-render the timeline afterwards.

If you want to do a comparison, when you re-capture go to the Media tab in the logging tool and change the quality from Normal to Better. This won't replace the existing captured clips, but make new clips under the same name. Now on the timeline you can change the timeline properties so that the desired quality is Better or Best (leave the minimum quality at normal) and the re-captured clips will replace the older clips. To see the older clips change the desired quality back to Normal.

If you imported the clips, or used EZCapture, then you'll have to replace the files in the media directories with new files of the same name. Note that you must use files that are exactly the same length as the originals.

    Hope this helps.

    Re: Re-capturing Video

Thanks Dave, when I tried Batch Digitize it said it couldn't find the start so I captured in the normal way I put a mark in & out to get it exactly the same length but there again it said it couldn't find the start so I captured without markers, I then put the original and the new above each other on a timeline lined up to the clapper board at the start (the end was ok because they both ended when the video finished) I then extended the new take backwards to match exactly the same length as the original then deleted that from the timeline, did a mark in & out and exported as an avi the problem I have now is that when I import it back the audio is not seperated from the video so how do I seperate the audio tracks? or will it work by just re-naming the video track?

    Re: Re-capturing Video

It will probably work, as long as the old sound tracks match up with the new video track.

I'm interested in what you mean by "couldn't find the start". Do you mean it couldn't find the start timecode on the tape? When you originally captured the tape, did you log it with the tape on the timecode, or from the system clock (e.g. using the LIVE device, or telling it to ignore the TC on the tape)?

    Re: Re-capturing Video

Dave, I replaced the original with the re-named video (with audio) and it's just coloured spots so it doesn't seem to like that putting the old file back restored it to normal.

I forget the exact words I got when I tried Batch capture but I think it was something like 'unable to spool to run in batch failure'. When I originally captured I just started the tape from the logging page and pressed the digitize button just before the clapper board.
