Studio 12 Crashing on Make Movie

I read the thread below about the BSOD on make movie and am encountering a similar but not identical problem.  I am able to hit the make movie tab but when I hit create file, my monitor screen flickers for a few seconds and then Pinnacle crashes and closes by itself. (I've tried a few different make movie formats to make sure it wasn't a problem with a particular format and it does it consistently with all of them.).   When I first installed this a couple of weeks ago I did make a test 30 second movie that did work so I would be surprised if it was the USB reader since that was there initially as well (although - perhaps not conincidently - that stopped reading cards as well).  Since this is a new computer, I've reinstalled a number of programs including a Roxio Creator program, Cyberlink PowerDirector, and I have everything installed that came with the default installation of my Pinnacle software (I got my program with the movie box that contained the hardware piece to transfer VHS to DVD).

I did try making a movie with Cyberlink and got a similar crash of that program so I'm thinking there's some incompatibility somewhere.

This is on a Cyberpower computer, i7 processor, 6 gig ram, vista 64.

     Any thoughts?

Also - this crash is occurring when I try to make a movie to my hard drive.  Haven't tried burning a DVD yet.

Remove any Roxio "Drag-to-Disk" Prog (MyDVD? Used to be called just " Roxio Drag-to-Disk" many years-ago, with just CD Drives, before internal DVD Drives became available) & Pinnacle's InstantDVD Recorder, from ADD/REM PROGS & try again.  Removing just IDVDR first, might fix it.

    Anyone-else?

How about doing a clean boot?

Re: Studio 12 Crashing on Make Movie

AAARRRGHHHHHH!!   OK - the problem is a bit different than I thought.   First of all, I unistalled all Roxio and Cyberlink products just to make sure it wasn't them.  I also reinstalled Pinnacle to start fresh.  I'm sort of getting the same problem but a twist I didn't discover initialy.

The program isn't crashing just on Make Movie.  It seems to be related to a folder where I am storing all of my video files (which is currently the default "Videos" folder in Vista).  When I go to open file and navigate through the folders, all goes well until I navigate into the Videos folder at which point Pinnacle crashes exactly how it crashed when I tried Make Movie.  It makes me think it's something with the folder and not the program (which would in a way suck considering the time I spent today uninstalling and reinstalling programs).  I'll attempt to move the video files to another folder to see if that helps but in the meantime, any thoughts on this problem????????

When I hit the more info button for the crash - I get the following:

Files that help describe the problem:

    C:\Users\David\AppData\Local\Temp\WER45C7.tmp.version.txt

    C:\Users\David\AppData\Local\Temp\WER54A6.tmp.appcompat.txt

    C:\Users\David\AppData\Local\Temp\WER563D.tmp.mdmp

Hmmm.. an odd one.. I have to be honest this is a first for me. Tell me how it goes after moving the videos to a different folder.

Re: Studio 12 Crashing on Make Movie

Well, when I navigate to the files in a different folder . . . so far so good.  My problem now is that when I hit "Make Movie" and the box pops up asking for the destination folder, it always opens to my Videos folder since it was the last one I used and it crashes before I can change it.  Is there any way to set a different default folder or reset Pinnacle's memory as to the last folder I had used?

What video files do you have in that folder? Something in that folder obviously causes Studio to crash and will need to moved temporarily just until you will be able to set a new video import location.

Re: Studio 12 Crashing on Make Movie

I have a similar problem.  Make movie, go to make AVI file, and Pinnacle closes down automatically without making file.  Have been able to make DVDs direct and with AVI's first, and this is a new problem.  No new software or hardware.  Windows XP with 2 quad core xeon E5430 and Nvida FX370 with 256.

What location do you have set for making files? Have checked it for anything that could be out of place?

Re: Studio 12 Crashing on Make Movie

Deleting ALL Auxilliary Files might help. How to in THIS Post. And:

    1) Defragment your HDD

    2) Go to: Start / All Progs / Error Checking / Check Now & do both sequentially.

Apart from the above, if you haven't Background Rendered in Edit, then Rendering will take place in Make Movie. Effects & Transitions are Rendered by your Video Card:

    Nvida FX370
Which is unknown to me, without Googling it (No time at the moment). That may/not have some bearing. Just something-else to consider.

    Anyone-else/Marc again?
