    Studio Plus 11 and SP3

I just purchased a used copy Studio Plus 11 from ebay to do some video work with my new Canon FS100 because of the MOD mpeg2 files it renders but I heard today I may have problems with it on my XP SP3 machine....I searched out some things and read a good bit ( enough to know there have been problems in the past ) but I got to go to work and would like to find out if these issues have been worked out yet...Thanks to any and all replies!!!!

Re: Studio Plus 11 and SP3

Generally, there are no issues with SP3 and Studio 11 once it is installed.

Regarding the MOD files, they are supported by your Studio 11 Plus.  See this site: http://pinnacle.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/pinnacle.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=16252&p_created=1190931472

If you are having issues with this, kindly give us more description and your system details.

Re: Studio Plus 11 and SP3

I'm not sure if they fixed it but once SP3 is installed and you ever try to uninstall Studio 11 - you won't be able to because Studio 11 requires SP2 in order to uninstall itself... so what you'll hafta do is uninstall SP3 (which has its own demons associated with THAT), then reinstall SP2, then uninstall Studio 11 after reinstalling all the Windows updates that were uninstalled when SP3 was un-assed!

Like I said - don't know if they fixed it but that's what I had to go through a while ago...

    Have you seen this workaround?

     http://pinnacle.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/pinnacle.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=17013&p_created=1201947561

I believe that SP3 has a different Structure with SP1 and SP2 that's why this is happening. Doing the procedure in safe mode would a better idea.

If that didn't work for you, you can take out SP3 and update after S11 installation. It rarely happens that the procedure would not work so I am not sure if we will do more studies about it. If we get more cases, we can send the cases to QA.

Re: Studio Plus 11 and SP3

Not a rosy situation when you have an SP3 install that you cannot roll back, which is where my computer is at.

OK, right now the "workaround" cited is "Down for maintenance," but I assume it's "Load under Safe Mode" but when I tried that, S11 wants to see SP2 and is still blind to SP3.

All I want to have is a version of Studio that will work with my old Blue Box AD/DV that came back with Studio 7.  I just need to capture some old VHS tapes and then I can reboot to use S12 under Vista 64...

So what other ideas do you have Mon???

     Thanks

IMO, you can, by Removing SP3 from Windows Update, in ADD/REM PROGS, but you will have to manually Download & Install all of SP2's Critical Updates & choose which Optional Updates you want, by going to: Start / Windows Update. Ignore SP3 & choose Custom & continue with prompts.

If you don't know what the Optional Updates are, don't Download them.

You'll need to Disable Windows Automatic Update & it's prompt in the Taskbar & continue to Update Windows SP2, on a regular basis, otherwise you'll get SP3 back-again.

Re: Studio Plus 11 and SP3

Colour: Your thesis assumes that SP3 was installed from an update, but that's not the case here.  I loaded XP from a MS disc that had SP3 already incorporated.  Yes, it shows up in Add/Remove Programs, but it just shows up for informational purposes.  The "Remove" option is not available.

So, how do you load S11 on an XP system with SP3 that cannot be rolled back to SP2?

Well I found it in this thread http://forums.pinnaclesys.com/forums/1/171082/ShowThread.aspx  One can edit the registry or there is a patch you can apply.

Re: Studio Plus 11 and SP3

It could be that it is not under maintenance but the whole site is removed.  Avid changed the ticketing system and that KB site is still associated with the old one. I may need to check that.

But here is the new site:

Windows XP Service Pack 3 and Pinnacle products

    http://avid.custkb.com/avid/app/selfservice/search.jsp?DocId=219569&Hilite=sp3

Remove Studio 11 the same way you will install it, using welcomesp3.exe

    There might be two scenarios:

    1. It will ask for "Modify, Repair or Remove", choose remove.

    2. It will install on top of install. Continue with this to update the files and then do number 1.
