Video distortion, no sound, "check your cables".

Video distortion, no sound, "check your cables".

I have Windows XP Professional, SP3

    Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.20GHz

    2GB RAM

My graphics card says "Integrated with 256MB DDR memory and 128-bit memory interface"

I do NOT have USB 2.0.

I am using (well, TRYING to use!) the Dazzle Video Creator Platinum, which has DVC 100 on the sticker of the hardware.

I bought this because DVD Recorder wasn't working, and I was told it was hardware failure, so I sent it back and got this instead!

But I'm having EXACTLY the same problems as I did with the cheaper, lighter version (Pinnacle software takes up far too much space imo and is totally butchering my PC's startup).  I am trying to hook up my Xbox 360 to the Dazzle and then to my PC, I have followed every YouTube tutorial on it and have everything hooked up identically to everyone else.  I have the same software as everyone else (except I forced myself to buy the more expensive package with Pinnacle Studio, since other people keep saying that Pinnacle won't let any other software record sound ¬¬)

I have a multitude of weird and conflicting problems with this.

First of all, after installation the device manager in Windows says that the Dazzle DVC100 Audio Device is faulty, the error is "this device cannot start".

I figured I'd try to get video at least, but NO.  If I use Pinnacle 11, there is nothing.  At all. Everything is hooked up, audio and video input can be selected as Dazzle DVC100 and yet when I try to record... "a valid input device cannot be found. Please check your cables". Cables all checked, I give up and connect the Xbox directly into the Dazzle, and try again repeatedly. Still telling me to check my cables and there is a black screen. Nothing gets recorded, though the timer will count up.

Set the capture source to PAL or NTSC and the cable error comes up.

Set it to SECAM and there is no error regarding the cables, but there is still absolutely no recording going on.  No file is ever saved, nothing is ever recorded, there is never any preview in Pinnacle.

If I use Windows Movie Maker, there is picture but no sound. And the picture is massively distorted:

One of these problems must be due to the USB 2.0?  But how can NOTHING work in Pinnacle, while the junk that is WMM manages to function, at least halfway?  This is all still with the Xbox plugged directly into the 360, I want that to work before I start messing about with splitters again.  I am getting USB 2.0 installed this weekend but I still want to know why it's not working!  The sound device is totally flunked in device manager - it says it won't start.

IMHO I would suggest you install a USB 2 card in your computer. Most devices won't work with USB 1, it's just far too slow. I don't think these cards should be very expensive.

Thanks, I have a USB 2.0 PCI in the post since every USB device I has lags!  I figure at least part of the problem has to be that.

But as for the sound drivers... I mean, when I check the device manager, the audio device has failed but the video device is working. Even without USB 2.0, both devices should be functioning since I've downloaded all the updated drivers!?

Not necessarily, if the USB device lacks the power to feed the capture device you will have unexpected results. Do you have any other device plugged in at the same time?
