Hardware documentation for custom software development

    Hi Everybody,

I'm a software engineer with experience in multimedia software development and an happy PCTV Hybrid Pro stick user.
I would like to write my own application to view and/or save more channels at a time using one (dual) or more Pinnacle USB sticks.
Is it possible to obtain all I may need to develop a C/C++ MacOS X application (documentation, drivers, libraries etc) ?
Thanks a lot for any information.

    Best regards,

    Luca Severini

    P.S.
I put the same post on another forum (PCTV for Mac - Eye TV) already, but this one looks more appropriate for such questions...
I'm sorry for that, I'm not a forums' polluter...

    well I don't know.

    What information do you need?

What's you experience in developing such applications?

    whats you education background?

Why do you want to develop such an application?

Re: AW: Hardware documentation for custom software development

    Hi,

I need the documentation to develop a simple application able to take the data stream from the stick (whatever it is), convert it to some mpeg format (if it isn't in that format) and save it somewhere. Such application should be able to use more sticks at the same time tuned on different channels of course.

At the moment I want to do that for my own use, perhaps I could release it as shareware/freeware.

I'm a software engineer with nearly 20 year of development experience mainly, but not only, in the high-end deskop publishing market.

Do you have or do you know how to obtain such informations?

    Thanks.

Re: AW: Hardware documentation for custom software development

    It's an EM28xx-series-based unit (EM2881, I think).

If you're interested in releasing something that is fully open-source, you may want to take a gander at the EM2880 Dev Wiki.  Looks like, while usage of this part under Linux is pretty straightforward, they have had little progress on a Windows driver.
