Does Liquid 7 work with Vista?

    Hi guys,

I currently have liquid installed on a virtual machine running XP. It works ok but is slow in some parts and not ideal.

I have a very powerful laptop (core2 duo 2.66ghz, 4gb ram, 800gb hd), buts it running vista home premium 6.0. The first time i installed it wasnt pretty. Performance was poor and features didnt work the same as when under XP (naturally i know because of the unsupported OS)

Can anyone convince me to install Liquid on vista and give me some reassurance that it will work fine?

    Really need your expert opinion's.

    Will

Currently, as I am writing this, the install thread is five posts above this one.

    Thanks

Can i ask whether you have used the logging tool via a firewire on vista? My computer recognises the piece of hardware but liquid doesnt

Re: Does Liquid 7 work with Vista?

I read that other thread about the Canopus advc 55 and I don´t think that this is a fw prob or Liquid prob, the unit might just not be certified to run with Liquid and Vista as OS, I use an Advc 300 unit myself, that one works great with Vista, both 32 and 64 bits versions.

Check 2 things to start with:

Are you able to capture normal fw from your cam into Liquid, both Sd and HD using the logging tool.

Are you able to capture from your Advc 55 unit using windows moviemaker.

If the answer is " yes" to both those questions, the advc 55 unit "should" be able to use with Liquid for SD capturing, I however think that grass valley have developed a 110 unit that is their lowest number to be Vista certified.

Re: Does Liquid 7 work with Vista?

I will check on the 2 options.

I can use the advc55 to capture video via different bits of software.

The following site does actually state that the advc55 works with avid liquid...weird???

    http://desktop.grassvalley.com/products/ADVC55/index.php

    What did ur advc300 cost?

Did you read the bottom lines on that page you linked to ??

  • Windows® 2000 (requires Service Pack 3 or higher), Windows® XP Home or Windows® XP Professional (requires Service Pack 1 or higher)
  • We are still talking Vista in this thread, aren´t we ?

About the cost for a capture unit, there are link to reselllers from the website you linked to.

Ok, what about the line in the specs which says for 1394 4 pin IEEE connector to work on standalone products the advc55 requires a "special" power cord. I believe i am using a different one. What are your thoughts on that

Editing is a challenge for most machines, why attempt it running on a virtual OS????

Re: Does Liquid 7 work with Vista?

    John,

I only used a virtual machine because it would run XP. When i first installed under vista nothing was the same. Options like exporting to a DVD didnt work, the logging tool doesnt work etc...

The only problem i found with the virtual OS config was that virtual machines dont accept or recognise firewire...which is why i can use the logging tool...a big part of my needs.

I've dumfounded as to why a vista upgrade or patch hasnt been developed considering XP is all but gone.

Do you use liquid with vista and if so how is the performance?

Re: Does Liquid 7 work with Vista?

    mjolnarn...see answers below

Check 2 things to start with:

Are you able to capture normal fw from your cam into Liquid, both Sd and HD using the logging tool. - No. Liquid doesnt recognise the advc unit at all.

Are you able to capture from your Advc 55 unit using windows moviemaker. - Yes. I can capture a signal, be it from a TV or a DVD player. I use a program called Dartfish to do that. Similar to moviemaker. Im sure movie maker would work.

again, and once again, please read my posts, I did write "cam" and "windows moviemaker" I am not interested in what other apps you have installed, it might even be that way that they will make your sys work less good, I also did write " clean install" in the install thread, you seem to be using a lot of other apps and install procedures, again and once again, the install thread is to be followed sentence by sentence

Re: Does Liquid 7 work with Vista?

    Mjolnarn,

I understand what you are saying. This is a plug and play device which DOES work with every other product except Liquid. That is what i was trying to highlight with the Dartfish example.

I will go through your manual for install on vista and get back to you. Personally i dont think it will matter but i'll try it.

Please see below a previous set of instructions i followed without success: (this person said the problem was vista and stopped there)

    Dear Mr. Badel,

    In Avid Liquid 7, please:
    - go to Edit > Control Panel > Site > Player Settings > Settings tab.
    - Then right-click on an empty area on the left pane and select Add > LIVE.
    - Click on LIVE and select Options: make sure that "Timecode source" is set to "Time of Day".
    - Go to "Connections" tab and set video and audio to IEEE1394.

Now open the Logging Tool, select this new LIVE input and see if you still have the same problem or not.

If you still have the problem, I would need some more information.

    - Does your Canopus have an external power supply or not?
    - Is your Canopus connected to your laptop using a 6-6 Firewire cable or a 4-6 cable?
    - Do you have more Firewire devices connected to your computer?

I will be waiting for your reply.

Thanks again for continued help mjolnarn

Then, if you are so sure, why are you coming here asking ? There are instructions both in the vista thread and this one to be followed, do that and come back if you want to, that is, if you are able to follow the instructions written.

We might, in that case, have a clean spot to start searching for faults however I believe, as i already have said and as also in mentioned by the other person trying to help you, that the Canopus ADVC 55 not might be Vista compliant, just read this thread about how to test that.

This has of course nothing to do with Liquid, the prob is that you are using hardware that got developed many years before Vista was released.
