Any word on when this will be coming out? (I wanted to search the forums to check on existing threads but oddly can't seem to find a "search" feature).

On the grey banner at the top of the page, that says Forums on the left, at the right side you should see a search box.
As for S13, if Pinnacle are to repeat the same cycle as 11>12, in should be around in June.
However....
They may have devoted all their development into "NextGen", the replacement for Liquid and possibly Studio. That's not likely to be around until 2010. LewS, the mod on the Liquid forum, as said as much.
They may have slowed down development on Studio, and will replace 12 later in the year - in time for the Chrismas season?
It's all speculation. Last year there was a leak via JVC, so we could be fairly sure about 12 coming out.

LadyJemima:How on earth should I decide whether to buy V12 or wait for V13?
Flip a coin ? Just kidding.......
Typically when a new version of Studio is offered, there is somewhat of a price break to the early adopters. Afterwards, the price goes up a bit. Somewhere towards the middle or the end of the cycle, there are some deals on the program if you look around places such as Frys.com. I bought a second copy of S12 for a penny. There are usually rebates involved, but I,ve been pretty lucky with them so far. Frys just offered S12 ultimate for $39.99 with free shipping, but the sale ran out today.
Hopefully the next version of Studio is just a continuation of the current version with a few extra bells and whistles. I've been real happy with S12, it's worked for me straight out of the box without adding any patches.

LadyJemima:Thanks for the reply and tip. I'm really torn, now, though--I want to upgrade from V10 regular to V12 Pro. How on earth should I decide whether to buy V12 or wait for V13? This is a real dilema--I don't have enough money for both.
It's all down to personal speculation & rumour. Nobody will know for sure, until Pinnacle's announcement.
My speculation would be that it's unlikely there will be another Version of Studio Released. And likely that there will be an entry level in Nextgen, for former Studio Users.
S12 Ultimate is the same as S12 Plus, but with 3 Plugins, that require a powerful Video Card, which you may not have. IMO, you'd probably be better-off, by purchasing S12 Plus. The 3 Plugins aren't really all they are cracked-up to be.
I'm afraid nobody can mak the decision for you, since we don't know.
Anyone-else?

If you can qualify the reason for your need to upgrade to a newer/better version, know that your hardware is adequate/better than what may be required, and have immediate work for the new package with better features, then buy now and buy the current version that match your needs and get your money's worth immediately.
If not ................... stick with the older version - currently nobody even knows if a S13 will be born

Speculation on future releases of Studio or its successor all point to one firm conclusion: maybe.
Honestly, not even Avid knows precisely what form the product can or should take, since no one knows which market segment or video format will be a money-maker. It's hard to develop a single product that would compete at high and low ends, that would excel at both BD burning and on-line sharing, and that would work on both a quad core desktop and a smart phone.
The best answer is for you to assess your camera, your PC specifications, and your video objectives. Then pick any existing software that answers those needs and specifications.
Anything that is still over the horizon might remain there for some time or turn out to be a mirage. Any dramatically new product that goes on sale too soon, without adequate beta testing, can't be a good choice either.

I found a leak Just kidding As I experienced with other software manufacturers, they should be releasing a new version soon so they can keep up with the competition. I am more excited on what the new version will do. Like, if it supports AVCHD lite as the present one does not: http://pinnacle.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/pinnacle.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=18750&p_created=1243020983

I purchased the S12 Ultimate. The plugins for me, were more than worth the cost of admission. And.. being an "early adapter", got it at a nice price. Like everyone else, we wait to see what the future will be for Studio and Liquid. But in the mean time, I have Liquid and Studio to use "now" (along with Edius, although I have not used it much). The silence is deafening from Avid/Pinnacle on this.

It is now past the anniversary of the pre-release of S12.
Without significant beta testing, a release of S13 would be a mistake, especially if it is a major change. Likely, V1.0 would be loaded with things that might work on a developer's pristine Xeon^3 8-core, but cause most consumers' junk-laden home PCs to crash. It might also have all kinds of plug-ins that clash or have conflicting registries and whatnot. Pending release of the sales-version, a beta period might help Avid by affording some publicity that Product Development is alive. Without a beta and / or some intelligent reviewer feedback, smart buyers might wait for V1.2.
AVCHD Lite is (ironically) anything but "lite." The 60p version plays on VLC, but definitely not in Studio, which evidently does not support the 30p variant either. There are other versions of 1280x720p (such as the MP4 on a new Pentax), which Studio may not handle well.

As I remember, they offered the beta testing here in the forums, right?
No. not for 12.0, 11.0 or 10.0. The public betas were for 12.1, 11.1 and 10.(?) (10 was in a bad shape!) So for a version 13 or Studio 2010 or NextGen, the first beta would be a private beta, as was the case with earlier versions. Those taking part would be under a Non-Disclosure Agreement. They would have a private forum set-up here, and you would be able to monitor their visits to a "Private area" using the "Who's online" feature of the forum software. Except the "Who's online" feature has been disabled in the last few weeks. Could that be a clue?

There was once a beta forum for Studio 11, which was closed when the product went on sale. No such forum was ever revealed for S 12. Based on the persistence of certain well-known "issues" between S11 and S12, such as the non-functioning stabilizer, it's hard to imagine any testing took place.
Cyberlink is now offering the full version of its PD 7 product at 50% off. This is a pretty good hint that PD8 is due for release shortly. Avid had better stand ready to match or beat the features, or be ready to throw in the towel. No, PD is not a head-to-head competitor for Avid in the commercial editing & composition domain, but as a consumer product it has made advances in various features and may now be on the verge of surpassing others in terms of combined functionality, stability, and range of features.
So here's a bold prediction: NextGen (or S13) will be unveiled for advanced purchase, at 25% discount to S12.1 users, no later than 8:00 AM, August 10, 2009, beta or no beta.

sorry, that's wrong, unless we have crossed wires.. There was a public beta forum for S11.1, which was closed when the final version of 11.1 was released. There was also a public beta forum for S12.1, which was also closed when the release patch was posted. And I think you've missed the point about the beta that I suspect is already running, in private . August 10th, huh?

Well, I had Power Direcror a few years-ago, bundled with my PC. However it's come of age with PD7, since then. Despite it's attempt to mimic (In part), Studio's User Interface, Studio still can't be beaten, IMO.
Studio's User Interface is neat & tidy, easy on the eye & everything is where you'd expect it to be, at the click of a mouse.
NextGen is reported to have an easier to Use Interface than Liquid. Some functions that were accessed separately in Liquid will be combined into one function. Many people are working on it, to get it right. That could refer to either Liquid & S12 Development team (As already reported) or Beta Testers or both.
Still looks like Studio on steroids (In part) to me . If it is, we owe Mike Shaw a virtual

The "Feature Requests" sub-forum contains various possible enhancements. Some are more urgent than others, but hard to rank by any poll or focus group. Most newcommers would probably nominate "ease of use" or "lower system spec requirements," which would conflict with the requests for multiple video tracks or advanced Liquid-grade plug-ins. I honestly suspect that three or four AVCHD video tracks would crash any PC, so to add that feature might yield more complaints than praise. Two video tracks, plus a title track, plus the Montage feature, do about as well, or more.
Very likely, Studio 13 will be a very simple $80 base interface, which can be upgraded to an event videographers "pro studio" through a series of upgrades or plug-ins for successive $99 payments. Once one pays about $600, the result will be on par with a Premier or Vegas, but possibly easier on the front-end.
However, none of this will be of any use to the person who buys a 1920x1080 60p videocam or 1280x720 60p hybrid and finds that Studio cannot edit or even preview the files.
Too many NLEs offer more or less the same audio features and elevator music plug-ins. Studio would distinguish itself if it offered true support for native DD 5.1 or DD 7.1 sound, plus a plug-in interface for the Sibelius music studio tool. Otherwise, the Avid scheme to unify the products will be for naught.
If the faulty image stabilizer has survived two Studio upgrades, very likely it has some heavenly protector and will persist into the NexGen.
Once again, I predict an early August D-Day for S13, since Avid needs to to issue the PR and raise enthusiasm in time to offset what are likely to be uninspiring 2-QTR-09 results. Were the good news to goose the share price by as little as $2, that would still be a 14% gain, not bad for a day-trader who buys at $14, although not much for those who bought in 2005 at $64. On the other hand, even if S13 gets rave reviews, and sales jump 40%, that would still make it only a small element in Avid's overall returns. After all, neither the Neon nor the Saturn turned around two Detroit giants. Avid's strategic shareholders may decide to cut bait and toss overboard: Pinnacle off the starboard bow, Liquid off the port, Greenfield over the transom to the hungry Great White, and anything else that still wiggles to the hands of anyone on the dock willing to grab and hurl back some bucks.
BTW, I neither own nor trade any stocks directly, nor make any recommendations to anyone about them. The only proven strategy is to diversify, hold long term, cut risks when old, and feel fortunate if you simply match the market and avoid heavy transaction fees, swindles, "sure thing" tips, or infommecials.
