What components will run Studio best?

I am looking to build a new computer, I am interested in what  graphics card is best for Studio (GPU and video ram),

but also what are the best specs for the other components...

system RAM - I assume the more the better, but what is the best? Also, on the subject of this component, is it true that you need windows  vista/xp 64 bit if you want to access more than ...is it 4 ...gb of RAM?

    processor

    motherboard

HD - I assume that sata HD at least 72000 rpm is what is needed.

Re: What components will run Studio best?

the thread that was referenced  above mentions that studio (12) is not tuned to the quad processor architecture and also that it must run on at least 2.66 mghz clock cycles in the processor. as usual, the manufacturer's specs are much lower than this (it says pentium (!) or a 1.6 ghz dual core) *

I was thinking of buying an intel quad core Q9600 @ 2.66. Will this run  Studio OK?

    I was thinking of getting a P45 chipset gigabyte  ( Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3LR 775 ATX Motherboard )  .

    Will these run studio ok?

In this context, here is a fantastic metric that I found. Note that the quad q9450 is pretty near in the performance ballpark as its I7 quad brother  at 2.66 doing SOMETHING in Studio 12 ( I did not find out what studio function it was doing).

What does  "processor-intensive tasks in demanding multitasking environments and makes the most of highly threaded applications." mean? Is Studio 12 a highly threaded app?

    * EDIT: I just saw this on pinnacle's website:

Intel® Core™2 Duo 2.4 GHz or higher required for 1440x1080 AVCHD editing
Intel® Core™2 Quad 2.66 GHz or higher required for 1920x1080 AVCHD editing

it looks like you need a 2.66 for 1920x1080 avchd editing. hmmm. i dont even know what that is, but I it smells like high definition. Currently I only have SD , but in the future I might get an HD cam, so does this mean that for future support, I need to get something bigger, say, the I7?

here is another q: does one need an I7 to do Studio HD editing?

     ........................

I still have not figured out what graphics card would run studio - the thread , done last year, says that a good graphics card is important to run studio, I think.

what do you people use (well)?

I have not been updated with the latest processor releases lately. But judging the choice of processors here in this forum, many users are comfortable with the i7 chip than the previous Quads. You could get away perhaps with a slightly cheaper quad cores but be prepared for some slugging editing, especially with the AVCHD cameras.

Re: What components will run Studio best?

    Great research.

I've been looking at systems myself and sources such as PCMag, CNET and others are recommending the i7 over quad-core. I prefer OEM systems and I've taken serious interest in the HP Elite line with i7 processor and 1 GB video card and 6 GB RAM. Additionally, orders now qualify for free upgrade to Windows 7. HP, Dell and others must get a major discount on components and you can build a pretty speedy system at a good price right now.

For HD, the processing capabilites of the new architecture will give you a smooth experience editing video. For non AVCHD you can edit HD with a Core 2 Duo, but you will have to disable rendering on the fly and live with jerky preview of things like transitions and effects. You can turn on rendering before going to a long lunch. Make Movie rendering will take about double the time of your movie length or more.AVCHD will be even slower to the point where you will have to be very patient and wait a lot due to the additional decoding and decoding for the compression.

THe more you edit and the more complex your video, the more you'll want all the speed you can get. In AVCHD world, you'll want as much speed as you can afford. Verify this in other forum posts. Hopefully the next version of Studio will be more efficient, be optimized for 64 bit and quad core or more.

The difference in video quality between SD and HD is amazing and I put away my SD camcorder as a MiniDV player to play back my old tapes. I burn SD DVDs for compatibility and to keep costs low until Blu-Ray media reaches the affordable range. The nice thing is I just have to re-make the video on blu-ray.

Re: What components will run Studio best?

that tomshardware chart reports that it took an i7 920 processor 122 seconds to do some kind of benchmark function in studio 12 and a quad core q9420 , both at 2.66 ghz, did the same function in 132 seconds, an 8 pct increase in performance. However, I found that the cost of the i7 chip and an associated  i7 enabled mobo is around 70 pct more money, something like this. for a guy on a budget such as myself, I am tending towards the current minus one version vs the state of the art.

But it looks like avchd processing is better w/ i7 - as they said in 'The Aviator', Its 'the wave of the future'. :)

I like the last poster's idea of recording source in avchd, but cutting SD dvds for economy and for compatibility with everything now. interesting that you can always go back to cut BD .

with a qcore q9400 2.66 ghz wd I expect slugging editing with SD? There are flavors of i7 chip from the 920 to the whatever. what specific i7 chip is the best?  Of course the higher the chip the more money it costs.
