    Windows 7 is it!!

I had been running Win7 beta (32 it) for the past 4 months.  Very few real problems, a few cosmetic ones.  Problem with a few (older) apps.  An excellent experience.  I gave up on the 64 bit version.  Some important programs/utilities just would not work properly.

Now, I've finished installing Win7/32 RC1.  Also an excellent experience.  Very responsive and almost all works perfectly (except a couple of older apps like Acrobat 6, Nero 7, etc.)  I'm sure that the newer versions would be much better, even thought the older ones worked on Vista 32.  I have used the 'out of the box' graphic and chipset drivers.  LE 7.2 works quite welll with them.

So, if you want a great O/S that is very stable, fast, and compatible, I would suggest this version.  There's no going back now.  I'm not a fan of the 64 bit version, even though it might be the future of Windows (maybe in 5 years or so).  Just too many issues with peripherals, etc.

Hi Evan, the big Q is of course if the bob works for you.

    Re: Windows 7 is it!!

Tomas, I had no problems with the BOB on 7 beta.  And just checked on the RC, it also works properly.  I haven't check capture (I normally use Sclive) but it seems to connect just like in XP.  So I'm a happy camper.

I am so much happier with this O/S than any incarnations of Vista.  For my purposes, Vista was OK but so much slower.  And W7 is very fast responding and has some nice refinements and tools compared to Vista.  I have erased my Vista64 O/S and now have all my software installed on W7/32.

Ok, thanks for telling, nice to know.

Could you do a little test when you have some spare time, capture from fw should work well of course, could you also check if you have previewing in your cam if you choose fw out , this on a Sd project of course.

    Evan,

If your system supports XP virtual could you give that a try with your older app's and see if they work?

    Thanks.

That will be tough.  In XP mode, the video is emulated.  In fact the emulated video card is a S3 Trio 64 MB.  I don't think that will run Liquid very well.

    Re: Windows 7 is it!!

Liquid is working very well under Win7/32 so I don't think that is the question.  My interpretation of the question is whether the older XP programs (that are not too happy with Win7) will run in virtual XP.

    Re: Windows 7 is it!!

Then I'll clarifyStick out tongue, any old XP apps that require DirectX 9 or better will not work very well.  I haven't found too many programs that don't work.  I even installed Office 2000 on a x86 and x64 Win 7 installs and it ran great.  Didn't even have to use the compatability settings.

I think MS might have a winner here.

It looks like MS finally got the bugs out of NT4. Wink

Did Avid install quickly?.  I got stuck loading Hollywood.  Re installed all using XP sp3 compatibility.   There appeared to be a problem getting through 'hollywood' but it did load.  Seems OK with DV & HDV.

On XP my nVdia graphics green screens with anything above version 169.21. However no problems with the drivers provided by  '7'

    Re: Windows 7 is it!!

I did install without any hangups.  And I am not running in compatibility mode.  The only tweek was that after launching ALE, I noticed an "!" in the error icon on the toolbar bottom (forget the real name).  The message said something about UMI error.  So I made the UMI.exe with administrator rights and the ! went away.

I have also noticerd that the Spicemaster plugin renders and responds very slowly.  But haven't done much with ALE since.  Mostly, it is working well and the ProBoB works also.

Sounds as though you are running with the UAC still turned on?

I was originally and also when I saw the UMI issue.  UAC is now off but haven't revisited the issue.  Good thought.

    Re: Windows 7 is it!!

I believe turning the UAC off is what resolves the UMI issue, rather than setting UMI.exe to "Run as administrator". At least this was true under Vista 64. Not sure about W7, they gave it more UAC settings.

    Re: Windows 7 is it!!

Until Win 7 updates a few days ago all was well. After the update I found my camera was no longer recognised.('no device present' message). If I used the actual camera transport controls the tape image was present on pc.  Tried uninstalling 1394 input and rebooting but still no luck. Restored computer back two days and all was well again. Allowed pc to update again and back to square one.   Re installed Avid but again camera still not recognised.  Substituted an A1E in place of HC1 and camera recognised.  Closed out & rebooted with HC1 hooked in and all OK.

ps  I did try camera sustitution before re installing. Never had this problem under XP. Any Ideas out there?

Yes, I also noticed that with my Canopus Bob, it dissapeared from Liquid after the update and worked well before the update.

As the OS still is under developing, that might be fixed sooner or later.

    Re: Windows 7 is it!!

A couple of days ago, did a quick EZCapture - 30 min long.  It worked properly but did halt 2 times, requiring me to match up segments in ALE to make a composite stream.  Capture was from low-end handicam.  Halt could have been due to cam or tape error.  No consistancy in it.  But the capture and control worked properly.

    Re: Windows 7 is it!!

Think I have figured out the my problem.   DXdiag showed Win7 to be running DX11. Ran the DX10 patch and now camera is recognised and transport controls function.  A short capture test seems OK.  Under XP my graphics card would not accept DX10. Seems new driver installed by Win 7 effectively updates my  old nVidia 7600 graphics card.

Lost my CD/DVD player after Liquid install on Windows 7 RC.... Any ideas?

I think we visited this under Vista and I cured it once there ...

    Re: Windows 7 is it!!

I’ve installed Win7 32Bit over this weekend, installed AL7.2 , then patch 7.2.1, everything worked fine.

Could not, and most probably, did not install BOB’s drivers correctly. So, anyway, after starting Liquid it stops on 34% mark. I know, it takes long for the first time to start, but not an hour! Task manager shows that program is not responding.

Tried to install it over itself, uninstalled BOB drivers – same story.

Can somebody PLEASE explain me (preferably in plain English, as I am not very literate in computer’s mambo-jumbo) the one by one step on Liquid and BOB installation in Win7.

Also, I’ve noticed that my comp runs Direct11! I would need some help on that subject too: how do I go back to Dx10 if I need to.

    Greatly appreciate any help!

    Re: Windows 7 is it!!

When I installed 7.2, I did nothing special and all  the proBob drivers installed correctly.  That was the case with both Beta2 and RC1.

I looked at your profile and nothing really pops out as a problem.  Try turning off UAC and then installing/starting up 7.2 to see if that helps.  Maybe some of the online guru's will have some ideas.
