I have used Pinnacle 9 to create a multilayer menu, complete with multiscene backgrounds with transitions, moving thumbnails and everything. I now have Pinnacle 12 Ultimate, but I don't seem to be able to make menus the same, as I can't move menus onto the overlay track. I have tried opening the project with the menu in Pinnacle 12, but the menu didn't show up on the timeline. When I try to turn a clip into a menu, a separate menu appears, with just a standard black background.

Is it not possible in 12 to have backgrounds of scenes out of your video, or am I just doing something wrong?

In Studio 12, the menu goes on the MAIN track, and the background goes on the OVERLAY track.  No, that doesn't make much sense.  But yes, that's the way it works.

Or, you can use the cactus icon in the menu editor to replace the background with an image OR VIDEO of your choice.
