    Capture Woes

Hi all. I just got the Pinnacle Studio MovieBox Plus (Studio 12), and have been unable to get started. Whenever I try to capture, this message pops up: "A Valid Input Signal Has Not Been Detected. Please Check Your Cables"

I'm trying to capture from my VCR. I'm using a composite video cable (the one with three thingies -- http://www1.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve/3189440/2/istockphoto_3189440_audio_video_cable_isolation.jpg ). In case you haven't already gathered, I'm not too technologically gifted.

I have a tape in the VCR and it's playing when I try to capture. As far as I can tell, my computer has all of the necessary equipment requirements. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, and it's driving me absolutely crazy. Please help!

    Re: Capture Woes

Do you have the 'capture preview' turned on in the settings window?

After a capture, have you checked to see if you made a file. If you made a file and it's blank, perhaps the problem is with the video source, cables etc. Not sure about the movie box, but on the capture window, on the left side, is an icon which brings out a fly out panel allowing you to select between composite and S video. Be sure you have composite selected.

.......And: Make sure you have VCR Input selected, in Setup / Capture Source.

Perhaps this is also a good place to start.

    Re: Capture Woes

Hi all, I've tried all of the trouble shooting suggestions (some of them more than once), and NOTHING has worked. I even bought an extra gig of ram, convinced that might be an issue. No luck. "No device can be detected, check your cables" every single time. Well, I've checked the crap out of them. Is there some other fancy pancy equipment I need to buy to get this thing to work? Is my composite cable the wrong one? I just don't know anymore. Any more help would be greatly appreciated. I don't want to call customer service, as I've heard nothing but negative feedback about them.

Does the cables you run to your capture device work directly with a TV/display? Have you tried another analog source (just to further isolate the problem)?
