Hi Sef,
By way of background info, I am not a highly-technical person but like you, I live in Pal-land and also edit in HD.
HD-ready means that the TV can display HD programs from BBC or Sky but to view these requires an extra receiver (I speak for UK). I use a Sky receiver that cost an extra £10 per month and the quality is stunning for sport such as golf, tennis or football. I have a 42" 1080i plasma TV but later models use 1080p which is even better. Whether you choose LCD or plasma for your new TV is entirely your choice.
However, by using HDMI-out from your camera to HDMI-in to your TV, you can display in HD. Presumably you can capture the finished timeline to tape on your camera, therefore you can view your HD creation in HD onto your new TV without having a blu-ray writer. Having said that, a blu-ray writer on your PC is fairly inexpensive (I have an LG burner HL-DT-ST BD-RE GGWH20L). A blu-ray player connected to your new HD TV is also fairly inexpensive. I have a Sony BDP-S350 which works well.
You are right that Liquid edits in HD but it cannot produce a blu-ray DVD. Originally, I opted to buy Pinnacle Studio 12 Ultimate for blu-ray capture but I have never used it. I was having difficulty in getting Liquid to produce a DVD using animated picons (SD) that worked in all DVD players so I bought DVDit Pro HD which can produce SD DVD as well as blu-ray DVD.
Hope this helps and presumably you are now back to full fitness. If I can give you any other info, PM me.
