Ok, here are my specs: Core two duo with 2.6 ghz and 2G of RAM. Geforce 9600 GT 512 mb. Using Windows XP and shooting with a Canon Vixia HV30....it's a DV taped HD camera.       I've got Studio 12 Ultimate and the patch.

I've been burning blu-rays just fine shot in regular DV. But I haven't been able to burn HD movies that I've captured. The capture process is fine, but when I go the "Make Movie" settings, I cannot turn the bitrate higher than 12500. There's not even a grayed out option to go higher. 12500 is the best that's offered. I've searched around the board and can't any ready made reasons for this. I had my computer guy temporarily install a quad core 2.86 ghz processor and the same thing happened. I've tried multiple settings but the mbps rate option box never budges past 12500. I've spent all this time and money to burn HD content, but this is stopping me in my tracks.....can anyone please help?

When you capture the DV tape, which format settings do you use?

 When you import the video to the timeline, is it as 640x480 or 1440x1080?   Alternatively, might there be a first frame in the project which is 640x480 and therefore causing the whole project to default to standard definition?

 I suspect your project parameters are somehow being set to standard definition.  The maximum bitrate for a standard definition disc project is 12,500, even if the destination media is BD.  Studio allows higher bitrates only if the project parameters are HD.

An upgrade to quad core should not be mandatory in your case, unless your projects get huge, since the HV30 shoots int HDV-MPEG2.  Right?

Thanks so much for the quick response. Don't have my camera with me, but I set it for HD content...and when I view it on the TV through an HDMI cable, it looks to be just that. Is that what you mean that it could be the camera limiting the quality?

Just re-read your post...think I misunderstood you. My camera does shoot MPEG2. As a test, I captured three raw clips shot this weekend with the camera in HD, all about 10 seconds long. I put them into the timeline with nothing else. No menus, effects...etc. Still wouldn't let me budge past 12500. When I selected it to burn AVCHD onto a disc, it did give me the option to go up to 17,000 mbps.  I'm baffled.

How long is the clip and overall length of the project?

Think I got it! Strange though...something maybe to pass on to others. Whenever I went to Capture Format, the camera would always be attached and so the options were grayed out, automatically selecting mpeg2 settings. Well, I happened to unplug the camera while in Capture Format and suddenly the options became available and I could change "highest DVD quality" to "custom" and change the resolution to the highest setting. That's the only thing I did, but now the bitrate lets me go to 25,000. I test burned my 30 second movie to a BD-RE, put it in my PS3, and it played in 1080p.  Problem solved, I guess. Don't understand why they can't have the settings workable while the camera is attached, but hey....I'll take it. Does all the above make sense?

Canon VIXIA HV30...its a DV tape HD camera

Do you have to repeat the unplugging to be able to make the changes with your capture format? Or it works even with the camera attached?
