    HELP. USB Firewire??

Hi,I just joined in,so here is my New Years headache .

I have a dozen or so DV Tapes to transfer and...I am lost . My Camera is a Samsung VPD361 with a Fire wire connect.

My Pc a Laptop with no Firewire link.

I know I need to buy, a Video Card but most of them are for USB and the ones with both USB and Firewire are to expensive for me.

Is it possible to transfer from my camera to the PC with one USB card using a USB to Firewire Cable?

Sorry for my lack of Knowledge and  my poor English.

Hope someone can take this headache away, before I throw the Camera under the train.

    All the best from Portugal

You should be able to buy a cheap PCMIA or experesscard fireware adaptor to slot into the side of your laptop. That would do the trick. Try ebay!

Usb and firewire are different. there isn't an adapter.

adding a firewire port would be the only option

Actually, devices such as the Pinnacle MoveBox Plus and Pinnacle MovieBox Ultimate have Firewire input, and do "adapt" Firewire>USB -- at least for video capture in Studio and possibly InstantDVD, anyhow (that being said, it's not much good for anything else).

Me...I'd still prefer a "real" Firewire adapter such as jjn suggested.

Thanks to all advice, I think I have to grab "Pinnacle moviebox "(Hardware and software version 9 because its much cheaper).

I hope Moviebox will solve my problem.

I am choosing the more expensive route as my Samsung model as a problem connecting with XP.

I will let you know how it goes in 2 weeks.
