instead of burning directly to a disc , how do I save the video coming in from my camcorder to the hard drive of my laptop?

I just started using this thing and I couldn't figure out how to do this. The laptop doesn't have a burner in it so I wanted to just convert the file and save it on the hard drive, I'll upload it to photobucket later .

I didn't see much instructions on how to use this thing, it didn't seem too complicated but I still couldn't get it to even display the video from the source(camcorder) much less convert it to digital.

any help would be appreciated
