I have studio 9. I recently reformatted my PC due to a virus. I had to reinstall Studio 9 and when I select the DVD burn option it says I have to activate MPEG-2 encoding/decoding and I need to activate it now (for free). When I click on "activate now" it takes me to a web page with all my info automatically filled in. I click on "submit" and the page just refreshes and thats it. I get no email with the activation keys. I registered the product with Pinnacle when I purchased the software a couple years ago and recieve emails from them all the time so thats not the problem. I also went to the "Activation Keys" here at Pinnacle and they say my passport is not supported.

Anyone know how I can once again aquire these keys so I can burn DVD's again?

When you reformat and re-install, your passport is automatically changed. Had you registered to software before? Did you use an old email address for that registration? You might find that "regenerate activation keys" is the option you need to use, rather than trying to re-register the software as your serial number is already registered to your (old?) email. Am I making any sense?

Yes I registered the software 2 years ago and didn't re-register since I already was. I am using the same email that I orginally registered with.

When I went to "regenerate keys" under support and typed in my passport number I got the following:

"We're sorry. We do not show any activation keys purchased on your account."

BTW why do they they make you have to go activate options like this and not just give you the feature in the first place. Its kind of a pain and if I end up having to buy new software I don't think I'd go with Pinnacle again because of the option.

Studio is distributed in many forms - and bundled with lots of cheap hardware -  and Pinnacle have to pay a licence fee for every person who uses the mpeg-2 codec. Obviously, they don't want to pay for 5 million licences when only 1 million people are using the codec.

It would be more convienient if the Plus and Ultimate versions of Studio didn't have this inconvienience, but I think it's a price we end up paying for software piracy.

The support site says they will no longer support Studio 9 software issues via telephone, email or live chat. This forum is the only support available to me according to the pinnacle support page. I emailed them 5 days ago and didn't hear back. I filled out a support request form and when I submitted it it said "Studio 9 is no longer supported by Pinnacle Systems".

Any other ideas? I paid near $100 for this software 2 years ago and now it's useless.

Maybe I'm a bit dim, but I didn't know  you needed MPEG-2 Activation for  Transcoding from AVI to MPEG-2, for  DVD. Importing & Exporting MPEG2 File - Yes.

Have you tried entering your existing Actvation Key?

If you have Nero Burning ROM-SE? Create a Disk Image & Burn DVD with that. Or if you have NeroVision Express, Render to File DV-AVI & Import that into NVE & go straight to Burn.

In any event, Pinnacle's Rep Marc P, who Posts on the Forum, should sort this out for you, I would have thought.

If you do need a new MPEG-2 Activation Key IMO, Pinnacle's excuse that they no lomger support S8/9 won't wash. Since you have purchased a Standalone product, which is common to all Versions of Studio & not just S8/9..
