    Avid Free DV Tutorials

I am posting this link because much of the information in these tutorials also applies to Media Composer. They are short and will give you some idea of the Avid workflow.

    Lew,

I think that everything about MC or Avid should be in one pinned thread.

Otherwise we will end not be able to view other threads.

    Re: Avid Free DV Tutorials

Just to let everybody know you can still find copies or Avid Free DV on the internet if you search for them.  These are not hacked copies but the legal version that is still being hosted at other sites.  I can not tell anybody what the links are due to fear of death in case they are not 100% legal but do a search and you may have luck finding one.  I just downloaded a copy yesterday.  Another thing to note is that this program isn't 100% like MC and has nothing even close to the level of performance you would get out of MC.  This program should strictly be used just to get a feel of how Avid does their thing.

    Re: Avid Free DV Tutorials

Doing a google does give a few sources, at least for version 1.6.1. Ignore the search results given for any Avid site.

Thanks Lew.  They make interesting viewing and suggest that the basics of using MC wouldn't be that scary.  I am although content to wait to see what the future holds with the nextgem product.

If you have 30'' to 1 minutes clips MC is fine.

I still think you will suffer if you are cutting every 2-3 seconds or you have thousands of elements on it.

Then Liquid's workflow or FCP's is better or faster.

George, MC is used everyday by big companies to cut full length films and tv shows.

    Re: Avid Free DV Tutorials

Avid Free DV was always offered for free from the Avid website. See it as a trial. You can be pretty sure they are all legal.
Keep in mind that devlopment of Avid free DV stopped around 2 years ago. Also that free DV is a really basic version of the Avid software. There is no technical support for Avid Free DV.
But the software will give an good idea on how Avid sofware works and what the avid workflow is.

    Re: Avid Free DV Tutorials

    Hello everyone

I am confused as to which version of Avid the Tutorials refer to?  Look nothing like my Avid 6 or 7?

    regards
