Sigh..Studio Ultimate version 12 installation error

    Hello,

It appears I get to the end of the installation when the following message appears: "Erro 1304. Error writing to file C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\My Videos\OurFunVacation.mpg.scn. Verify that you have access to that directory."

My user name has Admin priviledges, and I've also went to that individual folder to alter settings but it won't let me (although I appeared to have removed the "read only" setting it was on. Can anyone help?  I don't want to have to take this thing back b/c I couldn't install it.

     Thanks,

     MH

If that's the only file that won't install, it shouldn't be an issue unless you want to load the test project footage. OurFunVacation. The .scn file contains scene detection and other data, so if it's missing, the program won't be affected.

If you can't write to that directry, then you won'y get the Video file itself either. Can you ignore the error and continue?

You can also delete the file first before installing.

    And welcome to the forum.

Re: Sigh..Studio Ultimate version 12 installation error

OK, I had to uninstall and reinstall Studio 12 Ultimate.  It quit working after a hard drive defrag.  So I uninstalled and reinstalled, got past a sticky "Error 1935", and now am stuck with the "Error 1304" referenced previously.  I checked and did not have permission to access the folder in question.  Went in safe mode and granted permission, and after a reboot I could access it.

I've Tried loading in safe mode (Error-Do not have permmision); Updating drivers; Running from the Hard drive instead of the DVD; shutting the computer off instead of cancelling the install and retrying after reboot; Installing to a different hard disk (and it gives the same error for C:\ drive which makes no sense to me; and every combination of all of the above.  The frustrating thing is that it worked for a couple of months, and now can't even load.  When the error occurs, it only gives the option to retry or cancel.

Which brings me to your comment above: "You can also delete the file first before installing."  What exactly are you referring to?  Deleting it from the install so it passes over it.

The ONLY thing I think I haven't tried is reloading XP which is what I will do next if your suggestion doesn't work.

Same error.  When I went to the folder it was shared, but Read Only was checked.  When I unchecked and hit Apply, Access Denied error.

    Access Denied error.
Google "Unlocker" . It's as free Prog. It's worked for me & a Recent Poster, who I recommended it to. It might work, in your particiular case.

I'm curious how this will turn out. Please keep us posted if you decide to try this.
