    Audio garbled with Satanic Bass

    Hi

First post, bit nervous...No Bill Gates here!

I've just purchased a shiny new Sony HDR-SR7 (AVCHD) along with Studio Plus (Ver 11.1).

After installing Studio (along with 11_1_2_5231b_light) and all the other free bells and whistles (except DivX and H.264.  Would'nt allow me), I started to create a blockbuster featuring my kids.

However, I didn't get very far.  The audio sounded terrible (garbled and bass(y) with satanic tones)

I uninstalled and re-installed the whole program without importing any of my fantastic footage.  All I did then was played back Studio's example clip of "our backyard circus".  Unfortunately same thing happened.

I hope my computer specs are up to speed for Studio (Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.4G, 2 Gig RAM, GeForce 8600 GTS (1Gig mem), Vista Ultimate (32-64 Bit?).  Surely got me to the moon 40 years ago!

If anyone has a reply/solution please be gentle with the jargon.

    Many thanks in advance

    Greeny

    Welcome to the forum Smile

If you are recording in 1920 rather that 1440, you might find your computer is underpowered for AVCHD (believe it or not!)

However, for now, let's forget that, as your sound issue happens with the supplied footage. I assume if you try to play that video in WMP it sounds OK?

First thing to look at is your sound card/chip. Can you check you have the latest drivers? What card is it? How are things connected up?

Could you describe satanic in a little more detail?

    Hi HH

    Thx 4 replying.

Wow. Ok may have to look at the 1920/1440 thing.

WMP works ok with all else.

I made sure I updated all drivers.

My sound card is a "SoundMAX Integrated Digital HD Audio" system (Is this what you meant or do I have to look furher?)

The Satanic sound (with the supplied "circus" clip) is a very low bass "Heeeoollow" etc that runs with the clip.  The instruments sound ok but with lots of reverb.  Voices sound deep and muffled.

    Hope that helps HH

    Cheers

    Greeny

Sorry, does that mean it does work OK with Ourbackyardcircus?

I'm wondering is there is a reason for you getting electronic howlround when using Studio. Is any other sound source plugged into your computer?

No better with the circus.  Same as my imported video.  Garbled.

So. have I got this right?

When playing back through Windows Media Player

Your camera footage - Bass heavy reverb and garbled

The OurbackyardCircus footage - as your camera footage

Any other video file - plays back normally?

May I offer a thought here?

     Hi Jeff,

Greeny has an SR7, which is the same model as mine.  It does 1440 - no 1920

    Hi Greeny,

I had a similar problem to the one you've encountered.  I thought I might have to re-capture lots of videos for a while.  Turned out that the problem was with the sound card - (I was running SoundMax, too) installed updated drivers and the problem was resolved.

Sorry its taken a while to get back.  Crashed out.

I will update my video card and see how that works.

The sound was ok when I initially imported images onto my computer using the Sony software "Picture Motion Browser".

Then after installing Studio, the sound became unreadable (like playing the soundtrack backwards).

Anyhoo, If that doesn't work, I think I'll have to purchase the Sony video editing software (I'm just not techy enough to fix the prob).

Thx for your feedback. Appreciate it.

I think you should take Kero's advice and update your sound card drivers. Looks like a very likely solution Smile

Studio is probably expecting to see the latest drivers.

Re: Audio garbled with Satanic Bass

Based on my experience, this happens when Studio configuration files are not setup properly to use the sound card or the sound driver.

Updating the driver would probably fix the problem but check this also : control panel > Audio. With integrated sound card, you can set all to default or your sound card name.

If this fails after a restart, work on the resolution on this site:
