Crackling and out of sync audio

Has anyone any idea what's going on with this? I'm not the first to experience this problem but there seems to be no feedback from anyone in Pinnacle Support. About 10-15 secs from starting recording, bad crackling is on the audio track. The audio is also up to 30 seconds ahead of the video.

I have done everything suggested. Upgraded firmware, tried different USB sticks and USB hard drives, changed the recording quality (3, 2 and 1 light), tried playback by copying to computer and not leaving on USB. Nothing works at all. It's also exactly the same if I output from either of two devices (using different cables so it's not a cable issue).

Have I just spend a 100 quid on something that is a total utter waste of cash? I was so hopeful. It's exactly what I'm after and seems so simple. If only it actually worked.

PLEASE, someone from Pinnacle, let us know what's going on. If there is a problem and you are working on it, just let us know. Otherwise, I guess my only option is to return the device (even though I've had it for a few months) and start quoting Sale of Goods legislation to the reseller to get a full refund. Such a shame as I desperately want it to work.

Come on Pinnacle Support, support us!!!

Re: Crackling and out of sync audio

I've been a video engineer for almost 20 years but I don't feel like having to create a work around for something that I expected to work correctly.

If I'm going to have to create one, then I'd appreciate someone here pointing me in the right direction as opposed to me having to set up some sort of huge video delay so that the audio is able to sync up.

Like e11woody, I would appreciate some help on this.

    Thanks

Re: Crackling and out of sync audio

This seems to be a pretty selective problem.  I've had my PVT since about March, and it has worked perfectly.  I've used both flash drives and external HDs both and routinely activate the "hidden" Best mode with no problems (except for a slow flash drive that couldn't keep up).

I have seen A/V synce issues on Windows when trying to play back files with QuickTime player, but the problem is in the player itself and not the files.  And I've never it seen it more than a second or so off.

Maybe the problem is PAL related.

Re: Crackling and out of sync audio

Been having similar problems myself.  Jumping out of sync audio and crackling over the audio also.

Tried lowering the resolution and this didn't resolve it. I was attempting to talk to a Western Digital E-Book 320 gb usb drive. I then tried with the flash stick and I had the same results. I've just purchased a ScanDisk 4.0 gb flash stick and all my problems seemed to have been sorted. It looks like the old stick was USB 1.0 which simply isn't fast enough and there must me a certain latency in the harddrive based E-book.

Trying a new USB stick. It may solve your problems.

The biggest problems I've suffered were with the opening sequences of my Dr Who collection. It seems there is too much going on for the older/slower devices to keep up.

Still get the horrible horizontal lines (divX style). Can't seem to get rid of those though.

Re: Crackling and out of sync audio

My experience with the problem was to use Enditall 2 to close down opened apps and then CAPTURE to a separate hard drive using the free program WinDX. It's been a while since I've used WindDV, but I remember it worked to solve the OSS problem.

Re: Crackling and out of sync audio

I have just starting having this problem!

I started using my PVT in July and it was working great. Then in the middle of September it started crackling and jumping out of sync about two or so seconds into the transfer. Bear in mind that this is after about 75 half hour (285mb) transfers.

I fear that it is a failed PVT as I have tried different input (VCR, DVD, several TVs, cable, TiVo, etc) as well as different cables to make sure they had not become damaged as well as different drives ans sticks ... all with the same result.

    Any thoughts?

I have the same problem, my PVT worked fine until about 2 months ago, and now I have bad crackling and a 5 second delay in audio. It makes recording from my 360 pretty much impossible and any help would be appreciated...

Re: Crackling and out of sync audio

    Guys,

    I'm afraid I've been lucky !

I bought my PVT 2 days ago and did my first capture today and the result is exactly what you all describe: sound is craking and out of sync !

I can't even say that it "worked fine for a while". It just doesn't work and I feel really irritated, especially regading the price I paid for something unusable !
