Is the EPG useless or am I doing something wrong.

I have spent the better part of two days downloading mapping and downloading and mapping all the while noticing how really stupid the mapping and downloading is. There are major ommissions and errors in the channel information. My last session of mapping resulted in a "download error" down load error and now I have nothing. (no channel information showing on the PCTV Center Pro). Is it really two days wasted?

I am using the preminum EPG in PCTV Center Pro Version latest version (4.98) and my PCTV HD Ultimate Stick is working beautifuly.

Do I really have to map over 250 channels manually with out using the TV application, using wrong and incompleate data. I have to belive that I am doing something increadibly dumb because I can't believe any company would supply such a product let alone charge a fee for using it the way that I have had to. Look at the forum for this product. There is no useful information at all and the only hint I saw was get the latest version of the software. Is the forum being scrubbed?

Please tell me how this to get this working or point me to a similar (useful) product that works with the PCTV Center Pro.

     Thanks

I tried getting the standard EPG to work and nothing would happen. I gave up after several tries and returned the product to Circuit City - it just wasn't worth anymore effort. Too bad I wanted a Video recorder that I didn't have to pay for the EPG.

The free EPG is probably going to be pretty useless for you.  It relies on information transmitted with the video on each channel and is A) only a couple hours deep and B) not present for every channel.

The subscription EPG is a lot better.  Unfortunately, the EPG software itself is not very usable in my opinion.  The user interface is very limited and (in my experience, anyway) it cannot schedule programs back to back without complaining of conflicts and aborting.  This is even with zero padding before/after a program.

I finally decided the EPG itself was totally inadequate and tried other PVR applications.  The best free one is GB-PVR, but it does not support any tuners that use software encoding (like most of the USB tuners from Pinnacle).  The best paid PVR software is BeyondTV, which works perfectly with Pinnacle tuners (hardware or software encoding versions).  It is expensive but the purchase price includes perpetual EPG updates.  It does have a free 21 day trial if you want to see how it works.

Too bad... the tuner itself works great.

I finally relegated my Pinnacle tuner to live TV only on another PC and bought a PVR-150 for $35 off Ebay.  It works great with GB-PVR.

The EPG is absolutely terrible I've found; it doesn't match up to any of the channels unless you enter it all manually, and the UI is such that if you screw up it can reset EVERYTHING. It can't match up channels in San Jose, CA, which is probably one of the biggest markets. The biggest issue I have with it though is even if you spend 45 minutes getting it all manually plugged in (after waiting 30 minutes for the download to start), you can't view more than one channel at a time in the guide. Its much faster and more convenient to go to titanTVs website or even the provider's website.

I am in the same boat and just replied to another same issue.  I have not seen any solution other than to manually map those channels.  the ones that i do recognize and have mapped work fine...my suggestion is find your fav channels and map those.
