    Streaming hesitates on wired network

Hi all.  I have just got my 200 out of the cupboard to install with a new PC running XP Prof SP3.

I am using latest Media Server software SC_2_50_Build236.

Unit connects okay but music streaming stops after about 40 sec restarting after 20 secs or so, stops again and so on.

I am using a Netgear 100Mbps router with Windows Firewall disabled.  I have the same problem using another PC on the network connecting to port 8000 on the server.  It brings up the Showcenter menu and tries to play through Windows Media Player.  (I have checked, nothing else seems to be using 8000.  Also tried 7000)

Strangely if I reinstall the old software version 1.20 11/2003 the unit does play, although I then have a problem getting the menus to load.

I have spent 3 days trying to get this to work.  Does anyone have any ideas?

    Cheers

Re: Streaming hesitates on wired network

Sounds like a networking problem to me--I'd look first at the Netgear's setup to see if it has a "UPnP" setting somewhere and disable it. One of my routers confused the heck out of Pinnacle's StreamServer (or PMSHost or something) or perhaps I should say it "busied" things on the network--heck even normal transfers of files got slow. If the Netgear isn't at issue, there are some UPnP dlls among the Pinnacle files that you can move-out and effectively disable. Sorry I don't have the details of this atm but do a search here or on the old board for upnp disable--something about UPnP discovery making constant activity on the network. A tool like Network Probe or ShowTraffic will let you see where the traffic is happening.

P.S. Try also the Pinnacle Support kb and search there on UPnP--that tip might be in there too.

Re: Streaming hesitates on wired network

I've had UPNP issues browsing through folders with Nokia N800 - I eventually traced it to the Netgear DG834 V2 Router - I had previously upgraded to latest firmware. After downgrading everything was ok.  You could also install a USB pen drive on the front and rule out the 200 box?

If you have a UPNP server whay not try that and eliminate the Pinnacle software (the Upnp server is much more friendly and easier to use).

    Thanks for your response laserfan.

I tried disabling Upnp on the router right at the beginning on my efforts to get the unit working. No joy.  I have also tried disabling some Pinnacle dlls. How do you access the old (forum) board?

    Also thanks to PaulC.

I did set up a UPNP server using Windows Media 11.  The interface is very restrictive compared to the Pinnacle Media Server.

I also downloaded TwonkyMedia but it would not run at all.  Maybe this is indicative of the problem I am having with StrmServer.

    Regards to you both.

I guess you DON'T! I just tried my bookmark to that board and IT DOESN'T WORK ANYMORE! It goes instead to this useless board, vs. the old board that had years of valuable information stored therein.

HEY PINNACLE--CONGRATS YOU HAVE PISSED-OFF THE LAST GOOD CUSTOMER YOU HAD!!!

Oops, sorry papadelta, I just had to vent. Apparently all SC support from Pinnacle has gone bye-bye, or should I say "auf wiedersehen". I think you gotta speak German to even get acknowledged these days. But I digress...

The trick I was trying to remember was: remove PMSEFSync.dll  and PMSUPnPServerMirror.dll from your C:\Program Files\Pinnacle\Shared Files\Programs\MediaServer\Plugins\ directory. Then reboot of course. Apparently these have to do with some sort of aborted attempt to build UPnP into Pinnacle's MediaManager; they can cause PMSHost to go nutso in the network presence of any other UPnP activity.

But I'm feeling this is not gonna fix your problem. BTW when using WM11 did your music play perfectly?

Re: Streaming hesitates on wired network

And about the old board:  They had to take the old board offline to keep a Google warning about malware from "infecting" this board.  Evidently, it was one of those "this board linked to something on the old board that linked to something that linked to something else", and that something else caused malware to be downloaded.  Thus, the easiest way to get their name cleared was to (hopefully) temporarily loop the old board back to this board.  That means that Google can't crawl the old board, and thus can't find the "whatever it was" that it's getting all upset about, and therefore this board is no longer marked as "linking to a malware site".

Meanwhile, they took the old board offline, cleaned up the "whatever it is that was causing problems", and are now waiting for the Google warning to expire on the OLD board so that they won't be marked as spreading malware.  Once that's done, they claim that they'll bring the "good old board" back online so that we can still read the old wisdom stored there.

Ouch, now we have to worry what Google "thinks" about everything on the 'net!!!??!! Stick out tongue

Thanks for the info--I hope also when they restore the old board that they restore as well the Search function which has been long-broken too.
