Typically I'll have an hour or so of video on a Mini-DV tape, of which I'll extract key 10-20 second clips and do some minor editing (adding titles, voiceover, etc.). I then save the finished clips in AVI-DV format to put in my clip library. Then later on I can convert the AVI file to whatever format is needed, depending on where I end up using the clip (WMV for Powerpoint, FLV for the web, etc.).
I have a VIO POV.1 helmet camera that saves AVI files with XviD encoding. (I installed Version 1.1.3 of the codec on that webpage.) I'd like to do the same editing philosophy, although saving the 10-20 second clips in AVI-DV format would seem to unnecessarily bloat the file sizes. Therefore, after doing my final edits, I'd like to save as an AVI with XviD encoding. Under the options for saving the AVI, I checked "list all codecs" and selected the XviD option, but then my system locks up when writing frame #3 of the AVI file.
Is it really possible to use Studio to encode as XviD? I'm currently using Studio 10.8 but have an unopened box for 11 if I need to upgrade to that.
