Combining Scenes

    Combining Scenes

I am attempting to record a TV show, delete the commercials, and save the entire show as one scene.  When I edit the commercials out, the software creates new scenes and will not let me combine them.  I'm working with Version 10.6.  I see the menu option of "combine scenes", but it's never accessable.

Is there another way of doing this, or am I doing something wrong?

    Re: Combining Scenes

As far as I know, you can only "combine scenes" at a cut where nothing removed.  Studio does not really remove anything, it just sets pointers to where one piece ends and another starts. I really can't come up with a good analogy for this.

If you really want them as one scene, render the edited video back out as an AVI (my preference over mpg - it's bigger but less problems editing)  and you can then delete the original files if you wish.

    Re: Combining Scenes

As Jerry says, you can only combine scenes on the timeline if they have not been edited.  You can combine scenes in the Album by selecting them and using the context menu (right mouse-click).  OR you can turn scene detection off when bringing the file into Studio.

Why does it matter to you that there are multiple scenes?  It makes no difference to your end product.

    Re: Combining Scenes

Thanks for your input.  The reason I want to combine the scenes is because I like to put a menu at the beginning of the project.  The program puts in a space for every chapter, but I'd prefer to keep the chapters down to a minimum (3 or 4).  I can't seem to edit those extra chapters off the menu.

    Re: Combining Scenes

You must be using the automatic creation of chapters.  When you drop a menu on the timeline, you are given a choice to create chapters manually. You can then create just one chapter at the beginning of your video.

You can delete chapters from the timeline by right-clicking on the chapter marker which offers you a choice to delete the chapter.  (You can also create a chapter marker with a right-click).

I think that's exactly what I'm looking for. I'm going to give that a try tonight.

    Thanks very much
