    pctv nano stick in iraq

    HELP!!!!

I am currently serving in Iraq and was using my old dvb-t duo digital/analog cardbus reader from typhoon with life view software wich picked up the broadcast channels here for the troops. i bought a pinnacle pctv nano stick thinking it would be alot better but it doesnt seem to be able to find any channels? however if i use my old life view software and set the nano stick as the hardware i can still watch tv?? i am running windows xp with service pack 3. i have tried pinnacle support but the advice was crap ( downlad a early tvcenter and try that, great but my serial number doesnt work wíth the earlyer version) the TV here is streamed on uk digital freq. i have tried to manualy incert the freq data but i think i only have half the infomation that pinnacle requires. im am now lost and feel totaly pissed and have the feeling that this product is rubbish atm , please please help anyone so as to make my tour here alot more easyer and comftable for me.

why do you want to use pinnacle software? i tried it too and the only thing i got where absolutely annoying and totally stupid error-messages.

the free software ProgDVB works fine with the nano stick for me, maybe you should give that a try?

thx man i have got totaly p***ed with pinnacles support, there answer to everything seems to be, have you used a different usb port have you updated your sound and graphics drivers blah blah blah.

progdvb works fine and is simple if only pinnacle yould produce something like that. was just wondering if you managed to get the remote control to work with ProdDVB??

    but a big thanks man

hm, I think to use a RC with progdvb you will need a plugin. i havent tried that yet, but i think there is a way to get this working.

pls have a look at the plugins section on the progdvb homepage ;)

    greetings, bassi from ger

hehe, thanks man, no problem. i´m not sure that they are happy about my "solution", but if they are unable to write useable software, they have to life with that kind of promotion :D

i found threads in that forum where people are waiting for over 6 months without a suitable solution and no way to use a product they payed for - a lot of money in my eyes. what kind of company-politics is this? i dont understand them...

good luck to you man, i hope your time there will be over in the near future!

Hi I have the same problem: i cannot find a single channel in my camp in the UAE using the nanostick. I tried Pinnacle's software in quality search, Windows media center and ProgDVB without sucess. Can anyone help me with the best settings for this lattest program? I know the antenna is ok because all tvs work using the same plug.

    Cheers

Blame SP3 Re: pctv nano stick in iraq

This is definitely an issue.  Windows XP SP3 seems to not like the digital channels.

I have the software running on my desktop, WinXP-sp2, 2gb ram, 2.8ghz cpu, 1.2tb storage. It will scan the digital and analoge just fine.  It then try it on the laptop, Dell D610, 2gb ram, 2ghz cpu, 250gb storage and no scanning will find digital channels..  I have tried 2 antennas, in the same location and in a differnt location.  NADA.

I finally pulled the channel list file over and the channels are there, but the signal will show at 100% for a few seconds, then drop to 2%.  In some instances If I wait long enough, it will bounce 100% to 2% to 100% and so on.

It is not the location, I leave the antenna in the same position, and the laptop and desktop do not move positions, it is just moving the dongle between the two computers, a matter of >12 inches.
