installation error message -5006:0x80070017 - FIXED

    installation error message -5006:0x80070017 - FIXED

    hi there!

    i've been trying to install pinnacle studio ultimate version 11 this afternoon on a Dell Inspiron 9400 - with Windows XP, intel core duo, over 2 GHz and over 2 GB's of RAM; directx 9 gfx/sound card; well over the 1 GB minimum needed disk space, etc... i keep getting the same error message though every time i try to install the first studio plus disc -- it simply says:

     An error (-5006:0x80070017) has occurred while running the setup.

    i've gone through all the suggested troubleshooting steps from the user guide-- and im still getting that message-- any suggestions on what else i can do to install this software?

    i've gone through all the suggested troubleshooting steps from the user guide

    Have you already tried:

    1) Exploring Prog Disk & Opening setup.exe File

    2) Copying Prog Disk to a New folder on your Desktop & then Launching Windows in "Safe Mode" & then Opening setup.exe File, from the New Folder on your DeskTop.

    ADDED - The Error Message is an Installshield Runtime Error / CRC (Cyclic Redundancy Check) Error.

    This can be caused by a number of things. There was an FAQ, with a check list of things to do, on the old Forum. I've never been able to find it on this new Forum. There are plenty of Posts re: CRC Error.

    Anyway, if the above 2 don't work, inspect Prog Disk for any blemishes or scratches. If yes, rinse under a running cold water tap & wipe gently with a non-lindt cloth from centre outwards & dry with new cloth, to remove any blemishes or shallow scratches. Actually you could in fact do this 1st.

    Could be a bad disc. Try test installing it on different PC.

    I had a similar problem with another program a while back. It does indeed have to do with the installshield program. What fixed it for me was renaming the installshield-folder (c:\program files\common files\installshield). Just put an x or something in front of it and re-install Studio. Hope that does the trick for you.

    Try using a different CD Drive.  I had the same issue and tried the previously mentioned fixes and those did not work.


    Since I have a second cd drive (Slower drive), I installed the disk and gave it a try.  No problems!!!!
