Dazzle Platinum DVC170 / Studio Plus 11.1.2 background noise and faint audio volume on capture

How can I increase the audio capture volume and reduce the background noise with my Dazzle Platinum DVC170/ Studio Plus 11.1.2?

My configuration is Studio Plus version 11.1.2.5231, Windows Vista 32-bit, Composite video capture from Verizon DVR.  I've applied patch PCLEUSB2x32.  My composite video cables are very good. The problem also occurs when I use a VCR. Other Studio 11 features seem okay, including video capture.

Video/audio capture worked with Studio 10.8, so I upgraded to Studio 11.1.2.5231 a few days ago; I unistalled Studio 10.8, too. I've compared videos captured before the upgrade with videos after the upgrade.  Now, audio capture sound is very, very faint and there is background noise.  Increasing the system volume merely amplifies the noise.

I’ve discussed my problem with three Pinnacle Studio tech consultants (live chat), and updated my software. The most recent suggestion was that I read the Answer “How do you capture with Studio?” but I KNOW how to capture with studio. I was also directed to try and start the AMCAP, but it replies: “Error 8007001f: Cannot create video capture filter.”

    Any ideas?

Seems that there is a problem with the install.

Do section 2 steps in this site and try capturing again.

Re: Dazzle Platinum DVC170 / Studio Plus 11.1.2 background noise and faint audio volume on capture

forget Dazzle! ... i have Studio 10.8, Studio Plus 10.8 and Studio Plus 11.1.2 and Dazzle DVC150 and Dazzle DVC170 ... they are not compatible! (all software and drivers were properly installed ... of course only one program at a time)

i could capture video but the audio is almost inaudible ... if you boost it later, it distorts

Pinnacle Tech Support emailed me to say that THEIR Dazzle DVC170 will not work with THEIR Studio for analog capture and that they couldn't get it to work, either!

     ==============

however ... if you got it to work before ... the safest thing is to uninstall everything ... 1) download and run their RegCleaner, 2) download and install their latest Dazzle driver for your version of Windows (without Dazzle attached!), 3) reboot and attach Dazzle ... your system should recognize it now ... if not, retry steps 2 &3, 4) reinstall Studio .... then go to capture and you should see Dazzle as a capture option

after all of this, i have not gotten a good sound ... once done with a project, i make a movie in AVI format, then go to an audio utility program (i use Adobe SoundBooth) to correct the sound and then use a DVD burner software (i use Adobe Encore) and you have a great copy of analog videos

Re: Dazzle Platinum DVC170 / Studio Plus 11.1.2 background noise and faint audio volume on capture

I'm pretty sure I installed everything correctly, as well.  But, I also upgraded, installed 11.1.2, and deleted 10.8 (which worked fine).  Before I delete 11.1.2 and reinstall, I'll need to contact Pinnacle to see if the 11.1.2 will install without an earlier version on my machine.  They will surely have some reinstall workaround.

By the way, I not sure I follow your capture workaround procedure.  I see that you can capture video (so can I) but how do you capture the audio?  Or, are you using the faint Pinnacle audio--boosted and filtered by Soundbooth? I have the Adobe CS3 Master Collection, so I can replicate your procedure if I understand.

I'm a university prof and I make lots of clips (with sound--until this problem) from the news and science channels for my technology classes.  I have been using Pinnacle capture HW/SW on many computers for many years.

    Thanks!

shivs, that is good work around but let's give dpeak9 a chance to use the program the way its designed to work.

Kindly try playing the captured file in Windows Media Player. Does it have sound there?

Re: Dazzle Platinum DVC170 / Studio Plus 11.1.2 background noise and faint audio volume on capture

    Gentlemen

Thank you for your suggestions.  I am definitely in an improved situation.

By the way, when played in Windows Media Player, the raw captures exhibit the same faintness of volume and noise problems as within Studio. That is, before the driver reinstall.

Now, after uninstalling and reinstalling the Pinnacle driver as you suggested, the sound is audible and the background noise is much less prominent.  In other words, it is as good as the Studio 10.8 captures and servicable.  I just wish I could get a clean audio capture like in the old days.  But, I  certainly am happy about the improvement.

Thank you both again for your advice.  I appreciate it very much.

That's nice. Start experimenting on new cables and maybe you can harness the audio capture issue.

I am glad this one worked well.

Keep us posted if you found a way to enhance the audio capture.
