PCTV To Go HD Wireless / Device issue?

I've recently purchased it. When I connected it in the power socket, plugged the RJ-45 connector for my LAN, the lights just keeps resetting itself.

It starts with one light on the right, second one next to it and finally third. Then the last 3 starts flashing and goes back steady again. Now, after a few seconds (20, 30 secs), it's just resets itself and starts all over again and it does the same procedure every time. After a few minutes it stops doing it (even resetting it), but only one light (power) will turn on. If I run the wizard, it connects but after the next step (password), it says connection lost, restart the wizard.

Now i'm stuck and I have no idea what to do. Does anyone had this kind of problem?

Almost sounds like it's not getting an IP address, and is "starting over" when it can't get one.

How are you configuring your PCTV?  Static IP?  Dynamic?

It's been a while since I configured mine, but (mine being a 1st generation unit), I think it may "act" differently than yours does -- the rightmost LED is power, and there's 3 other lights to the left that get "twiddled with" during startup.  When mine is up and running (RJ45 only), I *think* the first light is out, and the next 3 are lit, but I'm not entirely certain...it might be that only the last 2 are lit.

What firmware release (it'll be a number--something like "1.7.1") does your system have on it?  When you run the Wizard, are you running it via Wired or Wireless?

Re: PCTV To Go HD Wireless / Device issue?

    - It gets the IP Address (DHCP), because when I look it up on my router, it's on my list of attached devices. (but disappears after the reboot)

    - I've got the latest software.

    - Wizard is wired. I tried Wireless as well but it just did the same.

The fact is when it's on the 3 green lights (which only stays for 30 secs), I can connect with it (but gets stuck on Establishing link, because it rebooted again), the router detects it and is visible on the "Attached Devices" list. But as soon it resets itself again, it disappears from the whole network.

It *almost* sounds like some sort of "Watchdog"-type timer is firing, doesn't it?  Something like -- it initializes, looks around, tests for (some condition that I'm not sure what it would be), then not seeing that condition, resets itself?

When you say "Reset", are you holding down the little button until the lights start blinking, and starting the config over from scratch?

Re: PCTV To Go HD Wireless / Device issue?

Well, on the booklet, it says hold a few seconds until four green lights appear and then let it go. Even if the device isn't connected to anything and only on power, it still does the same procedure (also wired or wireless connected on LAN).

So if I make an example with 1(on) and 0's(off) with the lights:

0001, 0101, 0011, 0111, 1111, 1111 (flashing), 0111(I can connect with), after 30 seconds 0001 and back from the start. Then after a few minutes it stays 0001.

Resetting it makes it only do the former procedure above.

Re: PCTV To Go HD Wireless / Device issue?

OK, just to point out the obvious, you have the latest software and firmware, right?

When I reboot the device, I hold the reset until all four lights come on and then ALSO turn off (don't know if that matters)

Also, it appears you don't want a wireless connection....try all the LAN ports on your router (make sure your router is using updated firmware as well).  What is your router type, model?  The fact that you say it reboots at the password step may indicate a router problem.

Next thing to try:  Set up a MAC filter and assign a static IP address.  Have you noticed at all when it reboots and reconnects, does it get different IP addresses each time?

If that fails, I would suggest you get a cheap USB wifi adapter, and "search for connections" and see if you can find PCTVTOGOHOME or something like that...try to connect to it and see if you can stay connected.  You won't be able to run the setup, but you can at least tell if it's going to reboot or not.   If you can connect and stay connected for a few mins, then buy a wireless router.

I can't say how many odd problems I have had with routers.  My last one won't stream Orb unless I rebooted it each time...so I got a new one, which works great with Orb, but my PCTV will not connect unless it is broadcasting the SSID (my old router, PCTV could connect on a hidden SSID)  go figure.

    1. I tried 2 kinds of routers, my Netgear WGR614 V7 and my Linksys WRT54G. Both latest firmware.

    2. I also tried Mac Filtering, doesn't work. On reboot, it keeps obtaining the same IP Address if it's on 3 lights (that lasts 30 seconds).

    3. I have three wireless wifi adapters and none of them changes my situation. The devices detects it only if it's on 3 lights and loses connection if the PCTV reboots itself.

I have a bad feeling that my device has an internal malfunction. :(

Re: PCTV To Go HD Wireless / Device issue?

OK, so you can use wireless.  I would suggest not using the hard connection.

I don't know why they say you need it for a LAN hard wire connection.  I used my laptop wireless to set it up and right away it worked on my hard wired desktop..

If that doesn't work, return it for a new one...
