Idea [I] Studio 12 - Are the processor requirements really less than Studio 11?

Comparing the system requirements for Studio 11 and Studio 12, I see:

    S11 requires:

Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz or higher required for 1440 x 1080 AVCHD editing – Studio Plus and Studio Ultimate only

    ·         Intel Core 2 Quad 2.66 GHz or higher required for 1920 x 1080AVCHD editing – Studio Plus and Studio Ultimate only

    While  S12 needs:

    - Intel® Core™2 Duo 2.4 GHz or higher required for AVCHD editing (2.66 GHz for AVCHD 1920)

So Studio 12 has a lower minimum processor  requirement than Studio 11?  No need for Quad core for AVCHD 1920?

There is another thread out there already. I believe that Pinnacle has already said that this is a typo. I'll see if I can find it for you.

Yes, the FAQ is not correct, we will update the FAQ to read like the Studio 11 spec.

     Thanks for pointing that out.

    Thanks Richard,

It's good that users who have a system that will run S11 can go to S12 without needing to upgrade their hardware.

Sony Vegas says they only need "1 GHz processor (2.8 GHz recommended for HDV)". There is no requirement of Intel 2 Quad for HDV. Why is Studio 12 not improved on system requirements? It is the same as 11.

System requirements for HDV are "lite" compared to AVCHD, in both the case of Studio and Vegas.

Only Vegas Pro will both read and write AVCHD.  I believe it works with proxies, which may mean less CPU / GPU requirements, but the Sony site refers only to HDV, not AVCHD.  I defer to Vegas Pro users with regard to the real functionality on a given system. Or you might avail their "free trial" and share your experiences.

Confirmed. Vegas Movie Studio uses proxies to view AVCHD. It makes it easier to edit, typically longer to encode when you try to make your movie .Studio use to have a function in S9 for DV. It went away uncermeoniously in S10.

Welcome to my AVCHD world...New High Def AVCHD camcorder $1000, New computer $2000. HD footage output from Studio, priceless.

I think you answered my question about migrating to AVCHD editing....NO! I will stick with DV or HDV for the forseable future.

    Studio 12 Ultimate System Requirements

Hey there, I was wondering if you or anyone by chance has Studio 12 Ultimate and if the minimum system requirements on Pinnacles website are a must or if you can get by with less than that?

I have a Dell laptop with Dual Core Processors 1.46GHz and 1.47GHz,  2GB of RAM not sure on much else (forvgive my lack of tech savvy)

I have a Canon HG10 HDD HD camcorder that recordes in AVCHD format.

Any other information needed just ask...Thanks so much

Re: Studio 12 Ultimate System Requirements

Let's put it this way. Editing 1440x1080 footage on a 2.66 GHz C2D system, 4 GB RAM is doable, but slow. I really wouldn't recommend going any lower. For 1920x1080 a quad is really what you need. A dual core won't work well and is likely not going to be even passable..  One of the issues with laptops is also the video card. You need to make sure that it does not use shred memory (such as Turbocache).

Re: Studio 12 Ultimate System Requirements

Hi, at the moment i'm looking for a new desktop pc for video editing.

It will be a AMD PHENOM II X4 940 wit an Asus ATI RAdeon 4650 graph.card running under Vista 64bit

On the site the specs od Studio 12 says : Intel Quadcore etc but ther is no mentioning of the AMD quadcore's.

Will Studio run on the above mentioned platform then???????

I think Pinnacle has given up on AMD and so have I. S12 takes almost 3 minutes to start on my dual-core AMD, but less than a minute on my old Pentium 4. It does, of course render much faster on the AMD x64, but there have been a lot of quirks with S12 that nobody has been able to duplicate. So, I said bye bye to AMD and bought a new Core i7.

Is that without a project loading? Although this might be hardware specific, I'm not sure it is the CPU type that is your problem. I have a 4600+ version of the same CPU as you and Studio 12.1 loads in 30 seconds. (XPSP3) and....

    .....21 seconds in Windows 7

I get much the same results from my AMD system.  I don't think the CPU is the problem.  My next question would be about video card and/or hard drive.

Have you checked your drive if it need defragmenting?

what are the system requirements, for both S11 and S12,  to handle standard def , regular ol' DV?

also,  will the following system I just acquired  be able to run s11 and s12 to process SD source?

    cpu - p4 3.0

    ram - 3.5 gb

OS - win xp pro 32 bit

    v.c. - agp 4650 gpu  w/ 512 mb ddr3 vram

HD - 1 tb SATA 1 7200 rpm (dedicated for video editing )

My AMD was a 5200+, XPSP3 + 4GB RAM. I now have a Core i7 920 2.67GHz + 9GB RAM, Vista Premium 64-bit. S12 loads in less than 30 seconds now. Unfortunately, I can't compare on the old AMD since my son knocked it off the table and it no longer boots! Oh well, I my go replace the AMD motherboard with a Core 2 quad with a faster clock cause I'm not impressed with Studio on the i7.
