Studio 11 doesn't recognize 710-USB analog input with Vista32
I have Studio 11 with the 11.1.2 patch and a 710-USB box running on a Dell Dimension 9200 with Vista 32. I downloaded the patch to install latest Vista driver for the 710. I can download video fine via Firewire through the 710. However, whether I try composite or S-VHS input and with the 710 capture setting at either VCR or with that unchecked, I get a message that I have no input signal, and I get no preview nor capture from either my Sony DCR-DTV900 or CCD-TR81 (Hi8). How do I get this to work? The 710 shows up fine in Devices.

Re: Studio 11 doesn't recognize 710-USB analog input with Vista32
Hi and welcome to the forums, I have a 710 and they can be cranky. The trick is to have your tape running and actually producing an input signal when the 710 starts looking for one. Try this: 1. Before you start Studio, connect your 710 up and start your input device running (playing a tape) so there's an input signal
2. Start Studio and start the capture process. Should see an input signal.
2. If you get the no input signal, you need to re-initialise capture so the 710 will look for a signal again, so:
3. Click on the edit tab so Studio moves out of capture mode 4. Then return to capture by clicking on the capture tab. This makes the 710 look for a signal again. There's always a delay of a few seconds with the 710 before the actual capture process starts. I get around this by rolling the tape forward, then rewinding while the 710 gets going. It means I have a bit of rewinding tape captured, but that's easily disposed of. Hope this helps

Re: Studio 11 doesn't recognize 710-USB analog input with Vista32
I have the same issue. My problem is slightly more weird I guess. I have tried four 710 moviebox's on four pc's and all have the same issue. here is a desctiption of the problem. The Moviebox 7120 is picked up when plugged into Windows xp/Vista (Studio 11 Plus) and installed with relevant drivers. The drivers are the ones supplied with Studio 11. Plug RCA's in start playback. Go into studio and select Capture. Sometimes I get the message "A Valid Input Signal has not been detected" and sometimes I get no message and a black preview monitor. I have also tested this on a pc with a fresh Win Xp install and only Studio 11 installed with the same effect. Also I have installed latest drivers on all machines and still the same issue. All pc's I tested on were Core 2 Duo and above with 1BG RAM and above. Knos its not my cables cause it works fine on a Dazzle DVC 170. This is obviously some kind of driver issue. The reason:1. four 710 Moviebox's can't all be faulty 2. it is not an OS issue, doesnt work on XP or Vista. 3. other devices that do the same thing (capture analogue video, Dazzle) works perfectly. Not gonna complain about how pinnacle could dare do this blah blah blah. I think we all know what we are dealing with when you buy Pinnacle gear. support intensive. (however Studio 11 is a bit more stable, except if you want to make DVD's) Any help, i really dont know anymore. and please nos replies about using the latest drivers. I have used ALL the drivers available for this device. Also i don't have duplicate driver entries. kewl!!

Re: Studio 11 doesn't recognize 710-USB analog input with Vista32
tried your suggestion mate, didnt work. today I will be doing some more testing on this, didnt have any time to last night. I plan to running some USB diagnostics on the pc's and will also be pulling two more stock items to test. one older 700USb and the 710 moviebox (another one, number 5) he he. Also will be testing with some other sources (couldnt even get DV to work on em) will update the mobo's drivers and flash the BIOS. If that doesnt work i really dont know what to do. lol Your suggestions definitely works for the Dazzle DVC devices, looks like it is always better to have the device plugged in and playing when you start up Studio.

Another thing that has an impact is how you plug the 710 in. It's been shown to be more effective when attached to the back USB ports. Using a USB hub also has a detrimental effect sometimes. Its really odd that you have the same problem with 4 different 710 devices attached to four different computers. I have one 710 device which works fine on five different PC's - 2 XP Pro, 1 XP Home, I Vista Home Premium and 1 Vista Ultimate.

Try to test the 710 on Windows Movie Maker and see if you can capture from there.

Re: Studio 11 doesn't recognize 710-USB analog input with Vista32
have tried on Windows Movie Maker ad DV ports work. Analogues doesn't work at all.
At first I could get it running by forcing the driver install. But it stops working intermittantly. and on different set up's. The driver I am using is the latest from your website but no luck. Its becoming a problem for us, as customers are brining them back one by one. It works and then doesnt work. anybody have ANY ideas, i am desperate. just in case someone asks, it is happeing on about 7 devices by now. So i dont think it is a hardware issue, i still believ that the driver is to blame for this mess. Oh yeah just for kicks I tried it on, Studio 9.4, Studio 10.8, Studio 11.1.2 and 12.1. I think that pretty much covers all of em. Always the same message, "A Valid Input Signal Has Not Been Detected". before you ask, different cales have been tried, also another VHS machine has been used. plus our players work great with other capturing devices like MAGIX and KWay's stuff.

Re: Studio 11 doesn't recognize 710-USB analog input with Vista32
If you have either a DV Tape Camcorder with or without "Pass Thru" & AV-In Composite Connectors or can borrow either of those. You can:
1) With "Pass Thru": Connect VCR to Cam & transfer a Digital signal to your PC, via a "Firewire" cable.
2) Without "Pass Thru": Copy VCR tape to DV tape, in Cam.
BTW - I assume that you have already Selected USB Capture Device in Setup / Capture Source / Capture Devices / Video "Drop-Down" AND Enabled "VCR Input"?,

Re: Studio 11 doesn't recognize 710-USB analog input with Vista32
yeah didnt think of that. but i dont think our customers would take us seriously when we ask them to do that. yes I selected the device from Capture Source. Clicked on Edit, Clicked on Capture, changed format, clicked on OK. Every-time it "looks" for the device it comes up with the error. Its like the analogue ports are inaccessible/unavailable?

Just to further isolate the problem. Our first suspect are the drivers, since the capture device also fail in another capture program (Windows Movie Maker). Can you check the driver version of the one currently seen in your Device Manager. See if this is the same for the other computers where you tried the device on.

Re: Studio 11 doesn't recognize 710-USB analog input with Vista32
have been working with two driver versions. the downloaded driver from the net seems to be version 4.0.46.0 and the one that comes with the product is version 3.2.32.0. I can force to install either but it has the same effect on all computers. one very strange thing happened yesterday. I uninstalled, reg delete etc and installed Studio 11.1.2, plugged the device in and it worked! restarted the machine, didnt work anymore. just doesnt make any sense to me?! Obviously it isnt the device that is faulty. Oh yeah one more thing, it didnt show a preview straight away. Just a black screen, clicked on Edit, clicked on Capture so that it "looks" for the device. and there it was, a preview with sound. no sound preview on the black screen dunno if the above helps??

Its a bit hard to conclude at this point. Another question, does all these computers use the 4.0.46.0 driver? Has this particular 710 ever worked for you on any computer?

Re: Studio 11 doesn't recognize 710-USB analog input with Vista32
yup all of them use this driver. But I have also tested the other version of the driver on all pc;s with the same result. Was there different revisions for this product? Maybe I have older versions of the hardware and there is a problem with it? The devices work once or twice and then stops working. I have followed the FAQ's and I know what the process is for getting the devices up and running. But just comes up with the message, A Valid Input Signal has not been detected.

Re: Studio 11 doesn't recognize 710-USB analog input with Vista32
This is a real tough one to isolate. My best recommendation for you is to contact our support group and if you have a lot of these devices acting the same way then it could be a bad batch. How many of these devices go through this problem and how many have been troubleshoot and diagnosed to be "bad"?
