I have installed ChromeXE, it all seems fine, however I can capture using the logging tool, DV footage down converted from HDV using my Sony HDV Player but

when I try to capture HDV footage I cannot.

If I use the i Link setting I can control the machine, the degitize buttons work, but there is no picture or sound on the logging tool, and nothing is captured.

If I use the Live setting and component in through the Xena card, I can see the pictures in the logging window, but the digitize buttons are greyed out.

Any ideas?

You won't get deck control with Live capture.

Have you checked the connections tab for the ilnk player to make sure everything is set to IEEE?

I know I wont get deck control with Live, I cannot digitize the footage because the Digitize buttons are Greyed out, and at the top it says the palyer is Still, even though it is running.

And I have checked the IEEE tab.

It is sometimes tricky to get Liquid to switch to HDV mode. Make sure ilink is selected and the connections are correct (all IEEE). Then exit Liquid. Next, make sure your camera is switched on and playing some HDV material BEFORE you start Liquid again. Then open the logging tool and see if your video is working correctly. You may have to close and open the logging tool a second time for it to initialize correctly.

See if that helps.

I have just tried that...Still nothing.

I have tried everyting I can think of, it seems strange I can capture no problems using the same tape same machine if I let it downconvert to DV yet it wont see HDV.

In fact in the logging tool even though you can control the deck using i Link, the window stays in 4x3, yet if I use the down converted signal it imeadiatly goes to 16x9.

This may be an IEEE port issue. Do you have another IEEE port or an IEEE card you can try. Some IEEE ports don't work well with HDV material. I don't see any mention of IEEE ports on that motherboards. What kind of IEEE controller do you have??

It's a Belkin 3 x USB 2x IEEE card in spare slot on the mother board.

I don't know what chip Belkin uses. Is it TI?? That is the best choice for an IEEE port. I must say, however, I use the port on my Audigy card and it works fine. Also the port on my Pro BOB works fine. Hard to know what is going on but from what you describe, I suspect the port. Make sure no other IEEE devices are connected to that card when you capture.

Fixed!

I remembered I had a IEEE port no my Audigy card as well.

Used that and now it works, also oddly the buttons on "Live" are now not greyed out either!

Excellent. Yeah, computers are one sure way to lose your hair and your sanity. I've pretty much lost both now. They make little or no sense much of the time.

Are you on Liquid 7.2 Build 4296?? Look in Help/About Avid Liquid. If you are on any earlier version you need to download and install 7.2.

I've just been through a very similar problem. We usually have racks displayed on left monitor with timeline (and thus logging tool) on the right. 

By swapping the monitor functions (using the 'eye' icon, bottom right) we canusually get HDV capture vie the IEEE1394 connections on the PC.

Baffling but it works.
