    Studio 11 Ultimate - Vista 64-bit Compatible???

    Good day all,

I had been using Studio Plus v9.4 on an XP SP2 machine and was extremely happy.

I recently purchased a new pc that is running Vista 64-bit SP1.

The old v9.4 does not seem to work on the new PC so I'm looking to upgrade to the Studio 11 Ultimate.  When I read the systems requirements, it states Vista (32-bit recomended).  Is this software compatible with Vista 64-bit????

     Thanks in advance,

    Davfe

The big issue with 64 bit is the hardware drivers. Do you have any capture hardware?

    JJN,

Not too sure about that.  Where would I look and what am I looking for?

Do you just use firewire to capture? If not, what device do you use to get Analogue capture into you computer? (as in VHS, Hi-8, and so on)

Or do you just edit videos provided to you by someone else?

    Ooops,

Brain fart.  I have a DV camcorder and I capture through firewire connection.  I have no problem capturing the video.  If I'm in Studio and add a video to my project and then try to preview my work, it will play the audio portion but no video is displayed.  The preview window remains black.  It also remains black if I add photos.

    Any ideas?

We seem to have skipped a bit. You now have S11 running on Vista?

What Video card do you have?

    jjn,

I do not have S11 installed.  I had Studio Plus V9.4 installed on my previous xp pc, which I know isn't compatable with Vista.  I now own a Vista 64-bit pc and I'm wondering if S11 is compatible before I run out and buy it.  When I check the site, it says Vista (32-bit recommended).

    I have a nVidia Geforce 8600 GT.

In which case, you should be OK. It's the hardware drivers that are a bit flaky in Vista 64 bit, but I don't think that extends to firewire..

The FAQ seems to be fairly confident.

Studio 11 Ultimate should work fine in 64bit. Though it will only run as 32bit mode as its a 32bit software.

Should?  I am right now having a computer made and a dual boot (XP & Vista) is about to be installed.  Is it better to install Vista 32 bit or it doesn't really matter if I run studio under the 64 bit version? No difference? no slow down?

    jcd,

Please review the forum discussions thoroughly before trying to run S11 on 64-bit Vista. There are MANY problems and in order to remain civil, I would just say that Marc P is not being entirely accurate. Several users have posted here concerning the issues of running S11 on Vista-64. Although S11 MUST be run in 32-bit compatibility mode, installing SP1 this past weekend rendered my installation non-functional. I had to revert back to the non-compatible mode for it to work. I use the term 'work' loosely, as I (along with others) experience blue screens, application freezes, and entire system freeze-ups.

My latest response from Pinnacle support is: "We are actually monitoring the Vista service pack 1 environment and we are still checking of any incompatibility with the service pack 1." I am using Pinnacle's own PCI-700 capture card and so far its been a miserable experience.

    Best of Luck to you.

Re: Studio 11 Ultimate - Vista 64-bit Compatible???

I'm thinking I should probably just run it under XP until It does work under Vista 64 good.  Really dont have much to install into Vista except for a game (I'm a gamer)..Crysis which of course--ONLY sometimes runs under 64 bit.

Might not be the best place to ask this but..To anyone with Vista is it even worth putting in the 64 bit version instead of the 32 bit? Got to ask its about to be installed within an hour or two.
