Idea [I] Studio Plus 10.8 distorted transitions - Fix

When I make movies the fades, etc. have horzontal lines or flicker or are completely black, depending on what type of file I try to save them as. AVI DV MPG2 have lines, while AVI mpeg, MPG1 and WMV are black during the transition.

All my equipment is new this year and fast, dual core 2.3mhz with 2 gig fast RAM, Nvidia 8800gts, fast SATA drives, etc.

Welcome to the ForumBig Smile & please read this Post 1st: http://forums.pinnaclesys.com/forums/thread/122551.aspx

    Nvidia 8800gts

Your Graphics Card is the main player in Rendering Transitions. IMO, the symptons you describe are poss due to your Graphics Card. S10/11 don't work nicely with nVidia 8xxx series Graphics cards for a lot of, but not all, Posters. You may be better off with  nVidia 7xxx Series, 7960?

I have ATI/AMD Card. So someone with an nVidia Card should be able to help you. I think Towbar has a 7960.

    Anyone-else?

Re: Studio Plus 10.9 distorted transitions

    Thanks Ned for the welcome!

I find it hard to believe that the number one graphic card, Navida, would not be compatible with Studio.. or rather, that Pinncale would not have insured that Studio is compatible with Navida cards, or ATI, for that matter? Especially the newer Studio 11?

I'm not going to back track and put in a older card to be compatible with Studio, when every other program has worked except for Studio. Seems to me that Pinnacle should be addressing this problem with a patch or a solution?

If it came to that I would go with Adobe's product, they always seem to run with no problems, or even Ulead's.

I would like to get this working though. I bought Studio 10 Plus back in late 2006 and couldn't get it to work on my old Dell because I didn't have enough computer power. When I got a new computer this year, I thought, finally, I can install this and have no problems, yet here I am, very disappointing.

The prob with nVidia 8xxx Series 1st cropped-up in the Liquid Forum a long time ago. Liquid & S10/11 have same Render Engine. Don't know if your Card is DirectX 9 or 10. I think that Pinnacle are currently working on a Patch for @ least Liquid anyway.

Re: Studio Plus 10.9 distorted transitions

Thanks again for trying to help, Ned. I had DirectX 9.0c and then dl'd and installed the newest version re the Pinnacle tech, it also didn't help.

I was just able to finad a solution for the whole thing this afternoon though and I think this should be a sticky or placed in the Pinnacle FAQ's. I found it because of your suggestion that it was a Nvidia "problem". (actually a Pinnacle software design compatibility problem with Nvidia).

I went into the Nvidia control panel and checked the settings. They were set to a custom setting with medium values for the "global" settings for Anisotropic set at 4x and Antialiazing set at about 8xQ.. this has never caused any problems with any other programs or games, anyway, I set the whole thing under Image Settings to "Let 3d application decide"

I then tried making a move from the same test project I had been using and got the same problem of distorted transitions. Then, by accident, I replaced one of the fade ins at the beginning of the project and when I made another test movie I discovered that transition was not distorted.

I then went back and replaced all the transitions with new idential ones, made a move and it works fine in all movie modes. Apparently, the card set with the higher settings isn't something that Studio is set up to handle and it gets recorded into the project and then into the movie when it is made. Seems really odd to me, but I verified by testing that that is what was happening. You have to delete the existing transitions and put them back in though.. I guess that's the only way the project can fix them.

In Navida I can set up separte settings for each program so will try setting up just Studio 10 with the lower settings when it starts and see if that works. But for now I have Nvidia control panel set for let app decide, as mentioned above.

This evening I made three new movies and they all recorded to AVI DV and mpeg with no problem.

Re: Studio Plus 10.8 distorted transitions

    Hi, MarkP:

I think you should also post this as a sticky on the make movie section because the transition distortions only show up after you have made a movie, not in the edit phase. From within Studio, in edit, they look fine and there is no indication that there is a problem. I wasted a lot of time carefully making several movie projects that played back fine from with in Studio 10.7 I didn't get the distortions until I actually made these projects into AVI and MPG movies and played them back in Windows Media player.

This was what really threw me off. I got the distortions from movies made in Studio on play back in other movie players like Windows Media player 11, Creative Media Source Player 2.00.11, ACDSee 8 player , Quicktime Player 7.2, but not from within Studio 10.7 or 10.8 itself. Also, I could make movies in Windows Movie maker and they played back fine in everything, so this is some problem with Studio itself.. Someone mentioned that Studio 11 also has "problems" with Nvidia cards, so it may also be the same problem.

Re: Studio Plus 10.8 distorted transitions

That makes sense. Moving thread from Edit section to Make movie section.

Re: Studio Plus 10.8 distorted transitions

    Marc P:

This may sound redundant, but I think you ought to have it under both topics.. under Make Movies to catch the attention of people having this problem while trying to make moves, and under Edit to warn users what they may run into before they have spent hours and hours making projects and then try to make a move, run into the problem and have to go back and edit all the transitions (redo them all).  Couldn't hurt to cover both bases, IMHO Smile

    Cheers!

Re: Studio Plus 10.8 distorted transitions

You have a good point. I got mixed up there for a second. I came up with a Sticky shortcut post in the Edit section.
