    Help with missing CODEC's

    Hello,

This may be the wrong forum for this question (and it may be addressed elsewhere, but I couldn't find it.)  My computer is running Vista Home Premium.  Last month I bought a Pinnacle HD Pro stick, and installed the associated software without any problem.  It seems to work fine.

However, since installing PCTV Pro 4.7 and PCTV MCE I have not been able to view mpeg/avi movie files on my computer.  Before I installed the Pinnacle software I had no problem with this, and since I haven't made any other changes to the computer it seems reasonable to suspect that there may be a connection.

When I try to view an avi from my digital camera on this computer (with Windows Media Player 11 or with GOM Player) I get an error message saying that the codec for this file is no available (error C00D1199).  I have tried installing different codec packages and nothing seems to help.  When I analyze the avi files with GSpot it also indicates that the codec for these files are not present, no matter which codec package is installed.

I am stumped as to what to try next.  Has anyone else run into this problem?  Does anyone have a theory as to why I would not be able to view an avi file now, when I was able to a month ago?

    Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

    Re: Help with missing CODEC's

I don't seem to have a "capture" tab.  In my settings I have  "video" "recording" "time-shift" "quality" "audio" and "tools" tabs.  No "capture".  Do I have a different version?

Assuming that you meant the "recording" tab I don't have many options.  I can set the folder where files are saved and how long the "clips" can be?  In my "quality" tab I can select "best possible quality" or set a "max. video bitrate" up to 16kbps.

I can't find anywhere to set the video format?  Any help on this would be appreciated as I'm trying to find a way to record from my TV and then move that file offline and show to others outside my house.  Yet when I play the file in WMP the video is there but no sound!!  I'm thinking it's a codec but I was curious when your instructions didn't seem to fit my particular set up?

    Anyone?  Anyone?  Bueller?

    System particulars:

Dell Vostro 1500 Lappy running Vista

    PCTV to go (1.7.0.231)

Going from a Time Warner 8300HD to the PCTV to go

Just an update.  I installed the way awesome CCCP codec pack and it "appears" to have fixed my issues.  I opened the file in WMP and it gave me a "wrong file version" error 3 times.  But I clicked "okay" each time and then the file just played?

it's always a good idea to use the latest TVCenter Pro Version for your hardware. Please have a look here

Codec Packs are dangerous in use; they easily corrupt all kinds of playback software or even the whole system; just a system restore or fresh windows installation might help in these cases. If you really need a codec, it's safer to install just that single codec.

Which version of TVCenter Pro should I use for my PCTV To Go Wireless HD?  I can't seem to find any support on the site for that product?!  I see all kinds of thing for PCI card, USB card, Stick this, Stick that, PCTV Analog, PCTV Hybrid, PCTV DVB, PCTV 40i, PCTV 50i, PCTV 110i, PCTV Mediacenter, etc. etc...but no PCTV To Go Wireless HD?  Where is my product?
