Pinnacle Video Transfer - Feature Request

Please post your proposed PVT feature request here.

Thanks to PVTMan for bringing up this idea.

    Re: PVT Feature Request

Interlacing in best quality is a big problem !

Impossible to obtain a good quality image on computer. I wanted to assemble videos from TV and on-board video camera, in best quality, for computers... It is missed!

I would advise also a refillable battery.

This product could be brilliant but actually...

    I bring it back tomorrow.

    Too bad

    Re: PVT Feature Request

    here we go:
    - support for USB card reader to record to other formats
    - use as capture device to PC. I know it defeats the purpose of the "no PC required" but could be cool for those of us who need it
    - rechargeable battery
    - auto record stop feature
    - NTFS support
    - full res MPEG2 capture switch
    - audio only conversion to MP3
    - HDMI connector to record 720 to 1080 HD video?
    - chapter points when converting a movie to PSP - would like to not jump to the end when I hit the dast forward botton on my PSP. Maybe every 1 or 5 mins?

    other things for this formum:
    - list of compatible flash memory sticks
    - list of compatible portable hard drives

    thomus:

Interlacing in best quality is a big problem !

That is very true. Recording at Best quality is just a waste of time (if the source is interlaced). The resulting video is not watchable. You can't even deinterlace it afterwards because the frames are already compressed to a level where deinterlacing just doesn't work. Well, it does work to some extend, but the frame is already destroyed anyway (e.g very blocky or "blurred out").

Using Better mode is not satisfying either because the deinterlace method used creates a very aliased result. Image below is enlarged to better show what I mean. It still looks very aliased at original resolution though.

So, the only usable mode really is the Good one...which is not good due to the low resolution.

We need a better deinterlace method and an option to deinterlace at Best mode

EDIT: Perhaps an option to use custom encoding settings would be good?

E.g, you put a txt file in the root of your drive (just like "best.txt") with something similar to this:

    Widht: 512
    Height: 384
    Audio: 96
    Video: 850
    Deinterlace: true
    Crop: 4 10 4 10

Audio and Video would be interpreted as kbps.
Crop would be interpreted as: crop 4px from top, 10px from right, 4px from bottom, 10px from left

    Hi,

What about limited playback for what we recorded? You know play, next, back and stop.

Could turn this into a VCR :)

    Re: PVT Feature Request

WRT interlacing. For best computer playback use 2 blue lights. This setting captures non-interlaced at 640x480.

Re: Pinnacle Video Transfer - Feature Request - Monitor via PC

Use the "Future Port" (USB-B port) to connect to a PC for monitoring purposes.

With a VCR and an USB Hard Drive the PVT works great, but without a TV to monitor the video it is hard to tell when the video ends.  If the PVT could stream the video out the USB-B port a PC could display it on the screen and thus the video could be monitored.  Also it sucks to capture 30 minutes worth of video just to find out you used the tape for only 15 seconds!

Re: Pinnacle Video Transfer - Feature Request - Monitor via PC

    Village,

You have a sixth sense on plans :-). There is a purpose for the second USB port ;-). I don't understand your second sentence. Do you mean that PVT stops capture after 15 seconds? If this is the case a new patch which should be up on Tuesday could solve your problem.

    Re: PVT Feature Request

Support old gaming consoles as well.

It shouldn't be so hard to make a update, that allows to record SNES/N64 (PAL) for example?

Re: Pinnacle Video Transfer - Feature Request

    Hello There!

Really need a better bitrate (Best mode).. It will be about 6Mbit (1.5Mbit too low), 8Mbit or 10Mbit is really nice for PVT. I know SD Coprocessor MG1264 can do it. Please change Firmware for better bitrate, and this item will be gold! If you'll make a Digital input (SDI) :) is too good deal.

    Sincerely your NURBS

Give the possibility to record video in uncompressed mode.

Re: Pinnacle Video Transfer - Feature Request

If I try to capture an old, damaged tape it's almost impossible to get a full video recording for PVT. Please do not allow PVT stop recording if an error is encountered, it should continue to record even if the video signal seems disturbed (or at least it should be given a recording option to ignore bad signals...). I hope I have been clear!

Re: Pinnacle Video Transfer - Feature Request

To see the following suggestion in context, go to http://forums.pinnaclesys.com/forums/thread/149265.aspx

    The PVT should either:

    1.   keep watching for video and only stop after a really long break, like 10-15 seconds.

    or

    2.   keep watching for video and create a new file for every section of uninterrupted video.  This would naturally break up home video recordings into files that represent each usage of the camcorder.

Re: Pinnacle Video Transfer - Feature Request

Or continue to record regardless of video interruptions until the recording memory is full, too. That should be easier and faster to implement.

Re: Pinnacle Video Transfer - Feature Request

This should already be the case. if you have the newest software then it will keep recording an start new files if there is a video problem. It should also capture until the disk is full. Is this not happening for you?

Re: Pinnacle Video Transfer - Feature Request

No, at least it didn't the one time I tried a long recording.  I am using the latest posted firmware.

I joined these forums just to say one thing...

And then I say it was already said...

    Please fix this problem...

    I'm really pretty disappointed...

This product isn't cheap and want to be happy with it.

    Re: PVT Feature Request

The interlacing option needs to stay for those of us who use the PVT for captures destined to go back out to television, but I'm all in favor of exposing more parameters via a text file (like "best.txt")

    Re: PVT Feature Request

The best setting is intended for DVD output which is interlaced. For PC playback you need the 2 lights (better) setting which is comparable to the best setting but is non-interlaced.

Re: Pinnacle Video Transfer - Feature Request

I post again my problem: parts of the video I transfer to the device look like they've been solarized.

Here is a sample screenshot of what happens:
    http://img523.imageshack.us/img523/6803/screenshotvideowm1.jpg

I had the problem after a few seconds of no video signal.

In the same recording, after 15 minutes about, another short break in video signal and, incredible, all goes right again.

I see with same problem the forum 149265 dated 4-1-2008: no solution still now?

    Thank you for your help!

This may be a bad unit - does it happen in all modes?

Re: Pinnacle Video Transfer - Feature Request

I've read the other posts here and have only one feature request.
I'm fully up to date with the latest firmware/patch.

    Taken from the patch note;

  • If a bad, lost or incompatible video signal is detected during recording, the red video input LED will be switched off. It will be switched on again, as soon as a stable and valid input signal has been detected again - recording will not stop during that time, Pinnacle Video Transfer will try to capture the incoming signal. Recording will be stopped automatically if the input signal quality is too bad or a valid video input signal gets lost completely for some seconds. If a recording has been stopped automatically due to a bad/lost/incompatible video signal, the red video and audio input LEDs will flash for some seconds. Do not unplug the connected USB storage device until the USB port LED has changed to blue.

In my experience the PVT is forgeting to switch back on when the signal resumes?
Please allow the record capture continue even when the device doesn't see a strong signal.
The signal on a camcorder tape will usually return but the PVT has already stopped recording. Why ???
Video tape that's been stopped and started, or used many times has all sorts of breaks and over writes that effect this device and cause it to stop recording.
The PVT should resume when a signal returns but on my PVT doesn't?
  • I can't see the point of the PVT stopping after 10 seconds which in my experience is usually 3 or 4 not 10?
Let it run on for say; 15 - 20 seconds. I can edit out the break later.
That would be a better option than the PVT stopping half way through a tape.

    Jim
