Frame Transition - how to make portrait

Frame Transition - how to make portrait

All the frame transitions I have are all landscape. I can't figure out how to edit the Hollywood FX frame to make it a Portrait style. I have tried rotating the object, but that just becomes part of the transition.  Can anyone provide details how to do that?

    Thanks.

HFX doesn't like anything except 4:3 ratio landscape pictures. If you try to use a square photo, for example, HFX will stretch it out to fit the 4:3 ratio.  You can also play with the scale settings to correct what HFX does but I find it easier to just make it 4:3 to begin with.

If you want to use a picture in a portrait orientation you would have to crop your photo so it's sideways when viewed in landscape mode and it must be in a 4:3 ratio. Then rotate the frame 90° so it looks correct in your transition.

Do you specifically need to use HFX or are you just looking to make an mask with a transparent area inside to make it look like a picture frame? If the latter, then perhaps you might want to take a look here.

I specifically want a picture frame just to bring in the photos.  Loosecanon, the idea of rotating the photo and then having the frame transition rotated is a great idea. I will have to try it.

     Thanks.

If so, then have a look at the link I sent and imagine that the "TV" is really a picture of a picture frame that takes up the whole screen.

The picture frame I use is a transition. HFX Frames: PLS Classic Frame B.  So the first image moves back, down and then up and off the screen in a frame.  When  portrait frame is used, the space on either side of the image is open to the image below. I have managed to get the Frame so it moves in portrait style, but then it also rotates the portrait image so it is back to where I was before.

Any further suggestions is appreciated. It is only a family video and nobody will care, but it bugs the heck out of me.

    Scott,

I made a new HFX effect with frame turned 90° through the whole effect.

You can download the hfz file HERE. Double-click it and it will install itself in the Frames folder next to the orginal.

HERE is a short video of what it looks like.

There was a minor problem when I tested it. I had suggested rotating the photos 90° and also rotating the frame. That worked except when I tested it the photos are sideways before and after the transition so that doesn't look right. Didn't think about that when I made my suggestion Embarrassed

Sooooooo, what I did was use the HFX Filter plugin on each photo instead of using the effect as a transition. What's that you might ask? Smile  Click on the Video toolbox icon just above the timeline, click on the plug to get to the video effects. Select Studio Plus RTFX and you'll see HFX Filter.

Click OK, Edit HFX Filter, and navigate to the new effect in the Frames folder. Double click it or drag it to the window and it will apply that effect just to that photo. Repeat that for each photo you want to have the portrait orientation. Also, in the video link you'll see a picture in the background as the photos change. In order to do that it's necessary to put your photos on the overlay track and the picture on the main track. Or it can be a solid background. Whatever works for you. If you put your photos on the main track all that will happen is you'll a black background as the photos change.

If this isn't what you're looking for let me know and I'll see what I can come up with.

    Joe
