    Light enhancement effects

    Hello all,

Just wondering if anyone has a suggestion for the best effect to buy to enhance very low light video?  I'm using Studio 11 Plus.

Thanks in advance for your time!

The problem with "enhancing" low light video is that you will increase the video "noise" the brighter you make it. There are tools in Studio (contrast, etc..) that will allow you to adjust the brightness level of the video. But again, the noise in the video will also be increased.

    Hey Tony,

Thanks.  That's exactly what I've been running into and was just wondering if there was something better out there than the standard tools.

    Thanks again,

I've been converting some old Hi8 tapes to digital, and I've run into this problem many times.  You have to take a two-step approach: first, use one of the light or brightness/contrast filters to get the video to the brightness you want, and then apply one of the noise reduction filters.  You'll have to manually tweak the NR  filter to get it looking ok, but eventually you'll find a sweet spot that draws a good balance between video noise and video artifacts.
