How to Make and Post Screen Shots in your post.

There is no way to upload an image to the forums directly, yet. To host an image you will need to use a free hosting site. The recommended one is ImageShack. To post a picture in a thread, follow these steps:

    1. Taking Screenshots

To take a screenshot in Windows, press the PRTSCN (Print Screen) Key. This takes a screenshot of the current contents of the entire screen and puts it in memory. Alternatively if you just want to take a screenshot of a single element (like a dialog box), click on the relevant element and press ALT+PRTSCN.

    2. Saving the File as JPG

If you've used PRTSCRN (or ALT+PRTSCN), you should open a photo editing program like Photoshop, or even Microsoft Paint (Start>Run>mspaint), and paste the image into there (CTRL+V). You should now save the image as a JPG format file, as this greatly reduces the file size of the image without losing much quality.

If you've taken a screenshot and it's in another format other than JPG, once again, open the file in a photo editing program or MS Paint and re-save it as a JPG file.

    3. Uploading the file to the host

Go to ImageShack. Click the Browse button, go to where you've stored the image, and click on it, select Open, and click then 'Host it' button. Wait for a while and the image will be uploaded to Imageshack.

    4. Posting the image in your post

Once ImageShack has finished uploading you will see a results screen. Carefully highlight all the text in the Direct link to image. Usually this just involves clicking in the box and everything will be highlighted automatically. Right-click and select Copy, or press CTRL+C to copy the entire link.

Now simply paste this link directly into the post where you want it to be displayed. To see if it looks right, before submitting the post, click the 'Preview Post' button.

Re: How to Make and Post Screen Shots in your post.

Or....... If you have ImageShack installed and configured, you only need to hit Alt + I to take a screenshot of the active window and upload it, the link is copied to the clipboard without ever having to go to the imageshack website.  (Alt + U to take and upload screenshot of entire screen)

    It's all automatic.

Then follow #4 above to past the link.  (Alt + I, then paste.  It's that easy)

EDIT:  Hitting Alt + I also puts a copy of the screenshot in a folder that you have already chosen when you configured it.  So if you want to alter the screenshot it's already there.  Once you do what you want to do with it, then right click the file and hit "Upload File to ImageShack" and it uploads and opens a page with the link.   Did that make sense?

Re: How to Make and Post Screen Shots in your post.

Or, a quicker method for a fast grab is to use imageshack quickshot.

Once you set it, with just one click (ie, alt-u) it takes the screenshot, uploads it to imageshack and copies the direct link to your clipboard.  You don't have to open imageshack or copy the link.

Then just highlight the text, click the chain link, paste and "insert".

The screen grab is also saved in a 'Quickshot Screenshots' folder in My Documents.  There is also a log file with the information (links) of all your screenshots so you can easily go back and get one later if necessary.

Added: Kayla seems to be a "quicker" shot than I am. Smile

On the Imageshack web page, there is a link to download the Imageshack toolbar. It's a pretty good tool. Have a look HERE at my desktop, one click and your screenshot is loaded.

    Yes

If you set it to "Direct Link to Image" you won't end up with all that extra stuff on the page.  Like so. Wink

I get confused when Dave separates ImageShack and Quickshot.  Quickshot is ImageShack.  Well, ok, it's ImageShack Quickshot.
I have the Toolbar, but have it disabled because it's just too much.
The site has certainly changed over the last couple of years.

Did you boys click on Marc's link in the first post?  And did you see where it says, "Welcome, forums.pinnaclesys.com visitor!"?  That's new and kind of cool.

Sorry, I'm easily amused these days.

You're confused?  What about me?  I think this stuff up!.Stick out tongue

But, you are correct, Quickshot is ImageShack.  I knew that, but assumed it was a somewhat separate application.  Learned now that it is a 'tool' of ImageShack, just like the toolbar is a tool.  (See?  Stalking you does pay off!)

Talk about stalkers, well I'm concerned now. This is the second time that Kayla has told me about the "Direct Link to Image".

Maybe I'll do it again and hopefully she will talk to me.........one more time. Devil
