Anyone else suffered with loss of image on Record to Tape?

Several times now, I have edited HD footage and left the machine to output to tape.  What happens is that I get blank footage usually after the outputting started fine, so for example, I will get 3 minutes of recorded output, then several minutes of nothing, then occaisionally, more footage

I've found the 'cure' is to start the record out option again ie re render, and ensure that no other services (eg backup routines, or virus updates) are running, usually, the footage then records out as expected

    Anyone got any thoughts?

There should be as few background services running as possible. Certainly not a backup routine and probably not a virus checker (especially Norton). Use something like EndItAll to shut those down before running Liquid.

    Hello Lew

Yes, I'd thought the same thanks.

One thing, It only seems to be when converting to HD tape, when I select wma files, I've never seen the same issues

ps, thanks for deleting the repeated posting, didn't intend to do that earlier

On page 100 - 101 in the ref manual, the hd part, the workflow is described, a file named P2T is created first, that file is then exported to tape, you can easily check if there are black spots in the file if you follow the workflow described in the ref manual and put the file on another timeline.

If the file is good, the tape that it is exported to should be good too I think.

Well, the usual question is do you have Liquid installed on a clean install of XP with few if any other programs on that XP install? If you have lots of other stuff installed on the system drive that Liquid is installed on, then it is almost impossible to diagnose these kinds of problems.

    Hi

The machine is a dedicated edit system.  It does have virus software etc as it's connected to the internet and also a back up programme called Memeo, this is the one I paused when I re did the rendering

    Thanks everyone

    Hi LewS,

Did you guys figure out a way to get around these problems - recording a HDV proejct back to camera or a HDV VTR? I have been experiencing the same problem recently. Afer correctly recorded one or two projects back to tape (on Camera Sony FX1), I have bought a new HDV deck Sony HVR-M15AU desktop VTR and since then I have tried three different HDV projects and could not get one clean reacording.

    Here is what happens:

Project is on HDV 1080 50i timeline 1440x1080 and the Settings are ok:  Control Panel > Site > System Settings > Inputs/Outputs > Video Outputs > IEEE 1394 and set MPEG output format to HD 2.

The file rendered, creating the P2t file. The window 'Tape Check' came up... after ticked the recording starts without playing on the computer screen but on the monitor (or Camera LCD), then the video image freezes for a second and it continues and the recorded video is ruined.

I have checked P2T file and it looks perfect. Also fused an HDV file and imported into HDV timeline but it did the same thing. I also let the whole project recorded on tape and realised it gets frozen frequently.

I have two editing computers both have similar configurations running on XP intel Quadcore CPU... and both did the same thing...

I am using Avid Liquid Pro running on XP with BOB and tried connecting thru BOB and also direct from computer firewire...

I hope you can help, Thanks

Without knowing anything about your new deck at all, does it have an auto receive mode.

In that case, turn that off, and switch to HDV

Re: Anyone else suffered with loss of image on Record to Tape?

    Hi,

The deck is quite standard VTR, you can check its specs if you need to but it has auto mode to check on the incoming signal.

    http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/568089-REG/Sony_HVR_M15AU_HVR_M15AU_Desktop_HDV_VTR.html

I have also tried that and forced it to HDV turning off the auto sense mode. I am just trying to understand what it might cause this hiccup while recording. Please note, I have tried this in two seperate computers and with two seperate recording equipment (camera: FX1 and VTR HDV deck)

I hope you can help diagnose the problem before I re-install...

    Thanks

What exact version of Liquid are you using? Look in Help>About Avid Liquid. What is the version and build number?
