    Re-installing v11 on another computer?

    Hello all.

I am still in the process of deciding if I want to buy Studio V11.

I have an older computer running XP that I could install it on to see if it will work well on that machine.

But if it does not, my eventual plan would be to buy a new computer to use for making movies instead.

If I buy and install studio on the first PC, and then decide that that older machine is not fast enough to keep me happy, would I need to buy another license to install it again on a new computer?

    Thanks,

    -Zim

It shouldn't be a problem, just make sure you uninstall it from your other computer prior to installing it on the new one

    Marc,

I may (hope springs eternal) end up in the same boat with S11 on this computer while I set up a new system.  Would you be so kind as to elaborate on what the problem might be if I happen to uninstall S11 from this computer before installing on the new one?

Welcome to the Forums Zim Party!!!,

    Dave,

No problems at all. That is what we recommend to avoid any duplicate registrations and any mix ups on your account with our database. IIRC the license that comes with Studio are only good for one installation at a time.

I'll agree, it's an easy process to do.

As long as y'er properly registered, and understant how to access your "My Pinnacle" account, you should breeze through the process.

I am still in the process of deciding if I want to buy Studio V11.

    IMO, you have 2 options:

    1. You can wait for S12. Release date sometime in possibly June.

    2. You can wait for stores to clear their shelves in readiness for S12, when they'll sell S11 for a knock-down price.

I have an older computer running XP that I could install it on to see if it will work well on that machine

Post your PC's specs in General Forum  Forum, woth Topic: Recommendations for Upgrading PC....?

But if it does not, my eventual plan would be to buy a new computer to use for making movies instead.

Then it's likely that it will come with Windows Vista pre-loaded. Works ok for some but for many, it doesn't. Stick with XP. It may also be that some of your progs won't be Vista compatible.

The best option is to have one custom built. You'll get a better product. Remember that XP is scheduled to be removed from the shelves in June, so is you need another copy of XP, get one before they are gone.

Wow, I didn't know that. Too much Pinnacle thread reading/posting, I've fallen behind the real world news.

Yup, the retail versions are scheduled to be yanked in June, but the system builders will have until Jan 2009.

HERE is the topic on the Micro$oft site. The article was written last September, but I'll bet that the final dates will not change.

IMO, if it wasn't for MS's Ante-Trust OEM bulk licences, which represent the most part of MS's OS sales, most of the consumer users would still be on XPYes

Count me in on that. No unless they start requiring Vista on newer software releases.

     My bold

If I read this correctly, you should leave it installed on the old machine to avoid registration problems. You install on the new machine but don't register?  Won't that affect the Passport if you try to regenerate Activation codes? I thought the Passport was tied to the machine ID.

Sorry about the confusion. I mean to say is make sure you uninstall it from your other computer prior to installing it on the new one. I have seen reports that a system could generate a new passport on system. It could be tied to a machine's operating system. So if OS is reinstalled it might generate a new passport.
