Need help with wireless mics mini stereo plug into camera

This issue is about to drive me nuts. I've been having issues with the mini stereo plug coming from the receiver going into the camera. (Sony vx2100). I have the cable tied to the camera with a velcro strap to keep the cable from moving, but if anything brushes against the cable, I get noise in the camera. I use Sennheiser ew 112 g2 wireless mic systems. I've had issues with the mics themselves and had them replaced. Now I find issues with the plug into the camera. I would like to find a fool proof method for this plug into the camera that would solve this problem, other than not brushing against the cable. Any suggestions. Thanks, Bob

    Hi Bob,

Although I am not that familiar with your camcorder, your question hints at the problem. You say the Sennheiser has a stereo mini plug. This is not a stereo output but rather a 3 pole mini jack. I don't know if this output is a balanced or unbalanced, but the Sony certainly has an unbalanced input. The mic input to the camera also carries power, to power the supplied mic.

The mic that came with the camera is most likely to be a 2 pole minijack, is that correct?

Are you using the camera switched to mic or line input?

If the input to camera requires only a 2 pole jack that perhaps you could try a converter from 3 to 2 poles to see if that gets rid of the issue.

You might also examine the tip of the minijack, they are not always precisely the same in dimensions, check it against the one supplied with the camera.

It does sound like a connector issue.  I used to use a VX1000 with the ew112 wireless mic sets with a beachtek DXA-4 adaptor.  This gives you two xlr balanced inputs - I found this to be a great solution .  No noise problems and the ability to connect the ew112 receiver to the camera and an on-camera shotgun.  I now use this on my FX1.  New they cost less than $190, and they turn up on ebay second-hand, which is where I got mine.

It is defintely a connection issue, I'm going to look for the adapter you mentioned. Thanks for the input. Bob

I have a VX2100 and plug mini stereo mics in all the time.  Never any problems.

A show each week for 17 weeks now and I connect a MK6/E66 shotgun directly at the mini jack of my VX2K with an XLR to mini jack cable.

No problems here either. I have also the 112 you have and I have connected as well many times.

What kind of cable do you have?
