    Has my SC200 died?

     Hi,

Last thursday I powered on my SC200 from the power on button and I got the green and orange LEDs instead of getting the red LED before switching it on from the remote.

I tried to power it off and on, but same result. My SC200 has been working great during more than 2 years now, but seems to be dead.

Has anyone of you experienced the same? Is there any remote possibility of bringing it to life angain?

    Thanks in advance.

I forgot to mention that I didn't upgrade the FW at all or did anything new with it. It "just" died...

    H!

I have same problem. Powered up SC200, two leds (green and yellow) turned on and nothing else happens!! Have no screen and remote doesn't seem to work!?

Have you fixed the problem yet?

Nope, no way to get it fixed...

Could someone from Pinnacle give us some light on this issue, pls?

    Re: Has my SC200 died?

I get this problem which is very annoying.

I use a hard-wired ethernet cable to connect to my network.

To get my SC200 to work again I do this:

Turn off power on the front panel

    Disconnect Ethernet cable

Physically disconnect the power cable to the SC200.  Wait 10 secs

    Plug power chord back in

    Attach ethernet cable

    Switch on front panel power.

To me it's as if the IP address is not being refreshed properly with my router.

Is your router the DHCP host? Have you tried fixing the SC200's IP address to its MAC? It does seem that SCs prefer to get their IPs via DHCP, vs. Fixed IP which I would normally prefer, but I have settled on handing-out a specific IP every time based on the MAC of the SC(s).

Maybe your router won't do this, but it probably does. I use a linux box to serve-up DHCP...

    Re: Has my SC200 died?

Yeah the router is the DHCP host.

The router can  "fix" an IP address to a MAC address, and it appears to remember the previous IP allocated if it hasn't been allocated elsewhere.  So in effect I now have achieved the same "fix" in that I now have "fixed" IP's off the DHCP - MAC assignment.  The occurrence of the SC200 lock-ups appears to have gone altogether, confirming mu suspicions about DHCP and IP allocation.  Either that or it's at the MediaManager server end that the SC200 has a problem with if the IP of the server has changed. Dunno really.  But as a route to get the "dead" SC200 working again, an effect re-set of the IPs is probably a reasonable course of action.

    Re: Has my SC200 died?

Yeah strange huh, same thing happened here too. It always worked fine, and the next time I tried to switch it on, just nothing. White empty screen, nothing more. Really thought the thing died or something. Don't know if it has anything to do with my router. I don't even get the "connect" screen, let alone that the SC200 tries to log on to the router.

Anyway, really weird. Didn't know there were so many others who experienced the same.

Didn't work for me. I get no screen or anything when I start this piece of a crap.. Zip it!Zip it!ck!!

No, doesn't work for me either. I did disconnect the whole bunch, wanted to switch to wireless anyway, but when I connect the thing to my tv, I get nothing at all.

    Re: Has my SC200 died?

I now have the same problem.   I have tried everything I can think of to get it working again.  I've looked at Pinnacle's support pages.  The 200 makes a connection to the server because I can ping it and I know the server is working and can be accessed on port 8000.  Sometimes when I turn on the 200 I just get a green light, other times I get the green and orange light.

I'd be grateful for any suggestions.

    Re: Has my SC200 died?

Hi, this may be a little late for you people (probably given up by now) but I had an electrician at work look at my showcenter 200. He checked the voltages from the PSU and found that on power up the voltage dropped.

He changed a couple of capcitors and my showcenter is all well again!

     Hope this helps someone.

    Terve cannonfodder!

Excactly what kind of problem you had with your SC200? It didn't start-up or..?  Cause i want to know what kind of problem did that fixed?

    Re: Has my SC200 died?

What he means is that Pinnacle ships the SC200s with cheapo power supplies which die... fixing the power supply gets your SC200 back up and running.

Jep. I ment that what kind of symptoms did he had before fixing the power supply and if those symptoms were just like on mine SC200 it could be fixed by the same way Surprise

Did he (electrician) changed all of those capacitors?

MY SC200 WOKE UP FROM THE DEAD!

All I did was I put an old Nokia mobile chager directly into SC200s motherboard and VOILÁ!!   Works again just perfectly!!

    Re: Has my SC200 died?

    Hi!

What a great surprise was to me when I saw your post sharing to all of us that you fix the problem!!

I took my SC200 to get it repaired and you were absolutely right. The problem was the power unit. I have it up&running again!!

    Thanks a lot to all.

    Re: Has my SC200 died?

    Hi, my first post.

I think I have the same problem, turned on the other day and the SC200 was making a strange hissing noise, and the screens it was pushing out over SCART were a bit wobbly.

No connection to the wireless network (usually perfect) and its not listening to the remote control signals either.

Is this a hardware/power related failure do you think?

    Re: Has my SC200 died?

I would start with checking the power supply. In my mind a strange hissing noise is coming form power supply capasitor(s)..

Similar symptoms with the network and remote seems to indicate also power failure..

    Re: Has my SC200 died?

    Hi Vuonimi

    I have similar symptoms here.

The power unit seems to be in a strange shape.

What voltage is used by the red/black connectors that power the showcenter's mainboard?

    Re: Has my SC200 died?

ok, I found the info on another forum, it is (certainly) 5 V and (probably) 300 mA.

I connected a 5.3 V power unit, but it didn't solve the problem.
(my SC gets stuck after power up at the settings screen, and does not listen to commands from the remote).

I guess it is dead then.

It is really frustrating to see how unreliable electronic equipment is nowadays.
My parents bought some stuff in the 80ies that still works.
The Showcenter is barely, umm... 4 years old? or maybe 5? anyway... they sell crap to us.

    Re: Has my SC200 died?

Hi, unfortunately there are people who counterfeit capacitors and these can find their way into all kinds of products. They look and function in the same way as the real product but use inferior electrolyte which can shorten their life to 10% of the expected lifetime. I've also had products, noteably satellite receivers,  fail because the design used capacitors rated to 85 deg C rather than 105 deg C. If you look closely at the caps in the PSU you can spot failed components by looking at the top of the capacity. If it bulges outwards or there is any sign of leakage then replace it.

btw you can can control the SC200 without the remote control, over the network connection.

I use an old Nokia mobile charger, which output 5.7VDC 800mA. Maybe not enough milliampeers...?

    Re: Has my SC200 died?

I have fixed various faults with these units, and as already mentioned elsewhere most (but not all) are power supply related.

Unfortunately in all electronic equipment, components fail, but as too whether they are sub-standard  components to start with is debatable.

I do however find it worrying that Pinnacle have ceased support for the Showcenter, especially as the last one I repaired was bought only 14 months ago
