I'm interested in yours opinion about  new XW 8600 workstation from HP. It is not a certified machine for the Chrome XE, but looks very interesting.

Configuration with 2x Intel Xeon 5450 Quad Core and 4 Gb RAM.

Slot 1 / PCIe / - graphics card /ATI 19xx/

Slot 4 / PCIe x4 / - Aja Xena

Slot 6 / PCI-X 133 / - storage / Atto or Adaptec U320 dual channel SCSI external/

It should work without any problems and be a rock solid.
I know, it is not a cheapest way to build another editing system but it can be an investment for the future / NextGen ? /.

 

Careful. I would think long and hard before I used a main frame that was not certified by AVID.

I can buy  new with full support  HP XW8400 in a very good price at this moment.Of course this workstation is EOL, so  I  have read  specification  for  the XW 8600. As I wrote - looks OK, but I'm not a workstation expert. This workstation is new and nobody's testing it with Chrome, I think. Am I wrong ?

So, any comments wellcome / based on the technical specification /...
